7. Of course, there were also the old stories from the 1968 New Hampshire primary
in which some of Eugene McCarthy's canvassers were allegedly told by voters that they'd support McCarthy because of his great work fighting the Reds back in the Fifties.

(To put this mixup into greater perspective...by the time of the 1968 election, JOE McCarthy had been dead for eleven years).

8. To a lesser (much lesser) degree, when I was phoning for Biden a woman
practically screamed at me -- He's a member of the Foreign Relations Committee!! I said no, actually he chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. She didn't know the difference, just, as with McCarthy, repeating what she'd heard. That's funny about McCarthy - in a sad sort of way.
