MOVE YOUR MONEY
I don't usually start threads but think this is worth it. I'm always asking what I can do to fight the rich in their war on the working class, because that's the real war that's going on. Here's something that you can do that actually means something.

Take your money out of the greedy rich people's banks. You know the ones, that intentionally blew up everyone's mortgage and then collected $700 Billion tax payer dollars for the problem that they caused in the first place, and THEN made huge profits and bonuses the very next year.

I already did it. 2 years ago when WA Mutual was going onto the rocks I took my money out and put it in a local credit union. It's the best bank I've ever used. It's sort of like a co-op, non-profit and owned by the customers. It's got personal loans and credit cards at low fixed rates. It has actual free checking, unlike the "free checking" with strings attached at WAMU.

DU Google Search "Move Your Money"

It's really fun to hear the bank ask "why are you taking your money out?". Even better while you have them on the phone ask them to record the call, then ask them to "guess what this noise is", then put their credit card through the shredder. I'm sure this is affecting them already because I'm starting to hear big bank commercials that I wasn't hearing before.

Please post to this thread if you have a similar story of moving you money or if you've just done it. DU is a big community, what if everyone here moved their money?

2. I hate banks, we had a bank account just for paying bills, but
closed it about a year ago, now just use our credit union for everything.
We saved several hundred dollars a year in fees by closing our bank account.

They charge small depositors for everything.

4. fees is why I left my previous bank
I'm still in a bank, but a smaller one, that doesn't charge me fees when my balance drops below $500

I dislike banks, but will likely be with one for now.

10. Here's a CU deal!
Local CU offers 3.00% on checking accounts (yes, checking accounts) when you opt for no paper mailings, go into your account on-line at least once a month and use at least 12 debit card charges a month. Saving rates are 1.60%.

Chase was offering 0.01% on checking and 0.03% savings, and cut credit card limit to $500 since we only rarely used the card (they did this to tons of people as evidenced on ConsumerReports website). goodby chase, hello CU.

15. Thanks For The Info... I Don't Get Paper Statements, But Using My Debit Card
costs me each time I use it! I can use my debit card if I click on the credit option even though it comes out of my checking account. Only then will I not get charged. Not sure exactly why they've started doing this, but I've meany people tell other places are doing the same! And I don't debit 12 times a month either! I do it when I buy groceries for the most part because I'm sure not doing that much shopping!!

Guess I could go in and out and make separate purchases! But I do have everything online and will be looking into it myself! Haven't even checked their rates because right now, and I HATE to say it my IRA account is making MORE money!

But if it will PINCH them enough, then it's the BEST way to squeeze them!!

5. Been using a CU as my bank for many, many years
WHy? One reason was my mom used to be on the board of directors, and they are solid as a rock financially. Good management over the years, staying out of the mortgage business, and responsible lending practices made it a no brainer. I trust very few people with my money, because I know there are a lot of people out there, right now, trying to figure out a new way to scam people out of their money. They're called bankers!

7. I ditched Bank of America over a year ago. VERY glad I did.
I already had an account with my credit union, but they don't offer really great interest rates. So I moved my money from Bank of America to a local bank, Presidential (http://presidential.com). The customer service is over-the-top FABULOUS. Their interest rates, while still pretty low, they beat Bank of America by A LOT.

I can't believe I suffered through Bank of America's awful rates and service for so long.

I urge everyone to MOVE YOUR MONEY.

8. I did it a few months ago. A local 5 star rated Savings and Loan and
a local Credit Union now have my cash.
I walked into my banker's office at that time with a print out of his bank's 1 star rating and said:"You can't expect me to take such a risk any longer."
He agreed, we are still friends.

9. I haven't been with a "regular" bank since 1987.
I am constantly recommending credit unions to people, especially when they start complaining about some ridiculousness their bank has committed against them recently ;)

11. I've got a small regional bank account
For the last 60 years or so, there has always been someone in my family who has had an account there. There is no interest to speak of, but there is free checking (including free checks for old folks), and the fees aren't too bad.

12. I get 4% interest on my checking acct at my credit union
must do at least 12 debit card purchases per month, access online banking at least once a month, get paperless statements, and either have direct deposit or have at least one auto-pay.

I'm a member of credit unions in 2 states. I left BofA in about 1999 after their fees went through the roof. I had never wanted to bank with them, but after several mergers and buyouts of banks, that was who ended up with my accts.
