The story. I realize this is not a political issue, but I need some info.
My son, (23) a budding teacher-to-be, enrolled at Western Michigan University, took a road trip to Atlanta. On his return trip past Chattanooga, TN., his last stop, a wheel bearing went out on his 2002 Ford Escort on US 24. He pulled over right away. He called 911 and an officer (State Police) responded. They searched for a towing company, on his phone, and got "EA Towing" as a company to tow him. So far not a problem. They towed him to the Firestone dealer in Murfreesboro. This all happened at night around 11-12 PM. They could not do the warranty repair, but noticed a transmission problem, the car would not go in reverse. He NEVER had a tranny problem, stopped in Chattanooga for gas and snacks backed out of parking place and such. The car was transported from Firestone to a car repair place (Bud's Tire) by flatbed truck for the repairs to the wheel bearing. The bearing was replaced about 6 months ago by Belle Tire in Kalamazoo, MI., it was a warranty problem at that point and was handled. Very nice and beautiful people.
They also noticed the tranny problem and sent the car to Phil's Transmission to get checked out, on their own, with Phil's charging nothing, just to see exactly what the problem was. Phil was stymied at the problem, nothing made sense, until we told him that the car was towed on it's front wheels by EA Towing. The car is a front wheel drive, according to Ford it should never be towed that way. We called our mechanic here in Michigan, he also stated that a front wheel drive should never be towed that way. This story goes on and on.
To get to the point, our mechanic said to contact our insurance company, should be covered by comprehensive. It is, but we have to prove that EA Towing, towed it wrong. Phil's transmission says that explains a lot. Remember he was stymied. EA Towing now says that the tow truck operator left the car running, thereby preventing the tranny problem. My son stated that no way the car was running, he would have noticed because of a little muffler noise.
Need to know has any there had problems with EA Towing? If so can you please tell us?
We are here in Michigan, Tennessee is a ways off, any help would be nice. My son still has to get to Tennessee to pick the car up after it's fixed.
