KCMO School District Set to Give Principals Pink Slips

KANSAS CITY, MO - The Kansas City Missouri School District is set to fire every principal and vice-principal in the district, and force them to re-apply for their jobs, FOX 4 has learned.

The KCMO School Board is expected to vote on the proposal from superintendent Dr. John Covington during executive session on Wednesday night. Because the district considers this to be a personnel issue, the board will not discuss the matter publicly.

Also during the meeting on Wednesday, the board elected Arick West as the new board president by a 7-2 vote.

Andrea Flinders, president of the district's teachers union, says that she believes that Covington's plan has serious merit.

1. I doubt they will actually be "fired."
Unlike teachers, it is virtually impossible to get rid of principals and other administrators. What happens is those not rehired will either retire, take another administrative job, or they will bump teachers currently in the classroom.

2. They could go to Afghanistan, they built lots of schools there.
Maybe they should invite the Taliban to move in, they could get unlimited funding then.

3. Why don't they just ceremoniously line them up
and kick them in the groin? Surely that would be less humiliating than what they're doing now.

4. So each school has on average five vice principals?
Is that typical?

6. I think the term "administrators" can apply somewhat loosely and actually
doesn't mean only Principals and Vice Principals. Though I'm sure many of the High Schools do have 2-3 Vice Principals.

It's hard to get a true count breakdown from that article.
