Poll question: Do you feel you are undertaxed or overtaxed?
Mind you, this question refers to you and only you personally.

1. Over. It's wrong that the gov't. takes my money and gives it to "churches" like the Osteen's.
Or that it's used on all kinds of other objectionable crap, building bombs, subsidizing Congress' health care plan, etc.

2. Over, but only at the state level
Sales taxes near 10% are a ripoff.

3. I would gladly accept a 1% increase in the sales tax if the money went to the schools.
Otherwise my tax burden is acceptable.

4. The only people who are undertaxed are the top 1%
Which owns 60% of the country.

5. I should pay more and so should you.
For a government that works, we all ought to give up about half, as long as the services are there that people need.

I'm not afraid of socialism, I'm afraid of non-involvement.

10. Same here. A small price for knowing we would never face medical bankruptcy
or destitution in old age.

12. I wish I could tell them where to use my taxes and would pay more
I'd like a whole lot less going to the war machine and more for human services.

19. That's where the "non-involvement" part is hurting us (and killing people.)
I'm convinced that if people had as much of a stake in politics as they have in shopping, they'd vote against war and fascism, and pay for human things.

6. Federal and state probably about right. Only property taxes seem unfair to me.
Of course I live in NYS, where property taxes are not exactly normal and where we seem to get very little in return.

13. I feel my tax burden is just right --
as a near the poverty level worker. But, I would happily pay a bit more if it would benefit things like national single payer, our park systems, education, green energy for all Americans, art funding, and debt reduction.

14. Other
I can't say I feel over or undertaxed. What I can say is that I don't like where all my tax money goes. I would prefer less spending on war and more spending on education, mental health, general public health, and infrastructure. I would even gladly have my taxes go directly into political coffers if we had very strong laws against private donations and monetary lobbying.

15. Undertaxed. Jesse Ventura gave away Minnesota's rainy day fund,
and Tim Pawlenty's allegiance to anti-tax nuts has transformed Minnesota from a success story to the land of shitty roads and failing schools.

17. overtaxed
At the state and local level. For all their yapping about "conservatism" Oklahoma gets their pound of flesh and then some in taxes, fees and tolls. It wouldn't be so bad except for the condition of the roads, bridges and public facilities and services we get in return...

Is a REPUBLICAN idea, one that Democrats should have repealed.

21. Slightly over
Mainly due to our sales tax recently going up in my neck of the woods, which as we all know tends to nail people who can't afford it harder. It's coupled with some spending cuts in a number of areas in the interest of chopping down provincial debt and deficit, though, so it's basically been coming for about ten years. Can't say I enjoy it, but I can't say it's not needed either.
