Rush STILL blaming non-union Massey mine disaster on union - and adds a new lie
Edited on Thu Apr-15-10 02:18 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
his new angle is to say that people are wrong for pointing out that the Upper Big Branch mine was nonunion.
He claims that the fact Massey was once forced by a court to rehire 85 union miners is proof.

"The United Mine Workers should have been overseeing their safety," Rush says.

Thing is, the rehired workers went to a different mine - the Horizon mine.

There were no union miners at Upper Big Branch. Period.

And, even if he was right and there were some present, there was no union contract. Which means the UMWA would have zero power of oversight.

MMFA has the video - no commentary yet, though

1. If there were a god, I'd expect him to have struck down that lying motherfucker by now
Since there isn't, I'm wondering who can stop him spewing his propaganda...

6. And then what?
His audience all goes to Beck or Hannity or O'Reilley or Savage.
Or one of 10,000 wannabes steps up and fills the big fat void that Rush's big fat ass is no longer occupying.

7. Do you think there's an endless supply of effective propagandists?

11. Endless? No.

Enough that you couldn't get rid of them all without resorting to draconian measures? Yes.

And if we were somehow silenced- without abolishing freedom of speech- how much propaganda do you suppose the remaining right-wingers could milk out of his removal?

13. Bottom line: Lies ALWAYS win over the truth
You might win a tiny little battle here and there, but the war is always lost.

And there's a reason for that: Liars have a huge advantage when it comes to swaying others; they have choices.

A person who knows some truth and who is honest can only tell that truth. It may be a tough sell. It may be an impossible sell...

But an honest person who knows something has no freedom whatsoever. They've got the truth and they're stuck with it.

A liar can say anything. They can start by flattering their intended audience, then add some utterly phony "facts", then appeal to any number of built-in reflexes/instincts to motivate their listeners.

If it doesn't work, they can try another lie. And so on.

A Bush staffer rather famously pointed this out a few years ago ("we create our own reality" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality-based_community).

If we made lying to the public -- say, to start a war on false pretenses -- a punishable crime, that would tilt the playing field back closer to level. Known liars would be exposed and taken off the air.

If we at least went back to the Fairness Doctrine, then no one would have hours per day to deceive and what they did say would not go relatively unopposed.

If nothing can be done to stop the propaganda, then the human experiment was over the day that mass-communications were invented.

If we can't stop the liars, then human beings will never amount to anything.

8. The trouble is that so many
only listen to asshats like rush for their news. Millions of citizens are polluted and love it. I guess all countries have a lot of really ignorant people in them, but it is still depressing that so many are so stupid. I really don't think rush even believes half of what he says but he sells it to the rubes and their ignorance and selfishness make him rich.

10. It still amazes me
He continues to utter new lies of increasing intensity. Every time I think he can't be any greater a liar he surprises me by lying even more intensely.
