Help with response to nutty HCR email?
My Pop sent me this email. His first communication with me since HCR passed:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page
amendment that would require all Members and their staffs to
enroll in any new government-run health plan.. It took me less than a minute
to sign up to require our congressmen and senators.

Three cheers for Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana !

Congressman John Fleming ( Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment
that would require congressmen and senators to take the same healthcare plan
they force on us (under proposed legislation they are curiously exempt).
>>> >
Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and Sign his
petition (very simple - just email). I have just done just that at:

http://www.fleming.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=55

Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!
If Congress forces this on the American people, the Congress should have to
accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families.
To do otherwise is the height of hypocrisy!
Please pass this on!!.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think he understands what HCR is. It isn't a government run health care plan is it? Any help responding to this would be greatly appreciated. And apologies if this is old news....looks to have been passed around a lot actually.

What say you DU?

1. There is already such a provision in the bill--congress and everybody else paid by feds
will switch to the exchange within a year or two--it's the same one they use anyway.

"The health-care reform law already contains a provision requiring members of Congress and congressional staffers -- who currently get coverage through a federal-employees plan -- to buy insurance through the exchanges. There's been speculation certain top aides could be exempt but that remains unclear."

(From an article where Obama pledges to switch him and his family to the new exchange. )

2. You can tell him the Democrats beat him to it...
The bill requires congressmen and their staffs to buy insurance from the exchange.

3. Thank you!
I still don't think it's a government run plan though. Or am I wrong about that??
