Fox News yanks Sean Hannity from Cincinnati Tea Party rally he was set to star in
Edited on Thu Apr-15-10 05:57 PM by sufrommich
Angry Fox News executives ordered host Sean Hannity to abandon plans to broadcast his nightly show as part of a Tea Party rally in Cincinnati on Thursday after top executives learned that he was set to headline the event, proceeds from which would benefit the local Tea Party organization.

Rally organizers had listed Hannity, who is on a book tour, as the headliner of the four-hour Tax Day event at the University of Cincinnati. The rally, expected to draw as many as 13,000 people, was set feature speakers such as “Liberal Facism” author Jonah Goldberg and local Tea Party leaders. Participants were being charged a minimum of $5, with seats near Hannity’s set going for $20, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, which reported that any profits would go to future Tea Party events. Media Matters for America noted that Hannity’s personal website directed supporters to a link to buy tickets for the Cincinnati rally.

But senior Fox News executives said they were not aware Hannity was being billed as the centerpiece of the event or that Tea Party organizers were charging for admission to Hannity’s show as part of the rally. They first learned of it Thursday morning from John Finley, Hannity's executive producer, who was in Cincinnati to produce Hannity's show.

Furious, top officials recalled Hannity back to New York to do his show in his regular studio. The network plans to do an extensive post-mortem about the incident with Finley and Hannity's staff.

Maybe the heat in the kitchen is getting a little too hot for Mr. Murdoch.

20. This is very interesting.
I may mean that Fox is trying to distance themselves from these loose cannons. And very telling that they had to reign in one of their stars who seems to have made arrangements for a public appearance without approval from his bosses.

It probably doesn't mean that Fox is going to start backing away from being the GOP propaganda machine, but it may mean they're starting to be concerned about what the mouthpieces are doing and may be trying to dial the nuttiness down.

Storm the Fox studios, you stalwart defenders of the constitution, otherwise known as the Tea Party. Yank 'em out of their cushy offices and perfumed executive washrooms and duckwalk 'em out to the pavement. Let Fox know that you won't stand for them muzzling a great American like Sean Hannity!

Go! Now! Don't wait for orders from headquarters, but ride toward the sound of the guns. Strike the first blow and get revolting!

23. Faux Doesn't Want Any Leeches...
Been there, done that with this one. My bets are the network feels they're being used to profit others and not getting a piece of the action...that's why the plug was pulled. If this group is allowed to charge and profit, so will others...lots of money to be shaken out of these suckers and Faux wouldn't get a dime.

Also, methinks Hannity is on a short leash regarding his "charity" that was recently exposed as yet another right wing ponzi scheme...the network is taking a hit within conservative hives about that one and this thing was just one scam too far.

43. Does Hannity have that kind of control over his show?
Can he just unilaterally decide where he broadcasts from without the network's knowledge?

Seems to me like the network is just keeping a short leash on him. Hannity may decide the CONTENT of his show, but he can't dictate what venues he can broadcast from. Besides, remote broadcasts cost money, and Fox shouldn't automatically pay those bills.

Fox is paying the bills. They SHOULD have a say in WHERE the "talent" performs. And I use that word "talent" in the loosest sense.

My gut says he was cleared to do the show from Cinci...even to "cover" the teabaggers. It's the money that is the problem. Sounds like he or others were double dipping here, faux didn't get a cut of the action and that's where the shit hit the fan.

a violent act. Considering that they have been one of chief inciters, they're probably looking to distance themselves as far as possible to avoid some of the fallout that will follow such an act.
