But, I love that "More Fun Less Taxis." Thank God for Progressives! But, teabaggers just hand us this material.

My impulse would be to believe that that is fake, but these folks are clearly real.

The broader question is whether is what to make of a movement of people the Germans would call the "total Ungebildet?" At some point, the only effective way to counter them is simply ridicule. They are simply a continuation of a movement that began with Calhoun, moved through Goldwater and Reagan, and has now culminated in Palin, clearly jumping the shark at the very last. They have jumped the shark and, at some point, ridicule is the most effective criticism.

Especially with his Groucho mustache and hyper Glenn Beck-like gyrations. But, I will concede that our Great Recession has caused us nothing like the depravations the Germans suffered under the Versailles Treaty and, although it's tempting to compare Glenn Beckkk to Hitler, he just doesn't have the gravitas. But, for now, I'll just go along with you. Those assclowns are the most ridiculous POS's I've ever seen and from the looks of things, I think the rest of the country is starting to agree. They're not getting anywhere near the numbers they got last year when the movement started. Either people have been scared off because they've become too violent in their rhetoric, or because they've become--like you said--too ridiculous. Or both. I'm going along with you on the ridiculous. People would rather be seen as violent than ridiculous.

Which was one of the reasons Bill Buckley took on the Birchers and the Goldwater people: they had made the Republican Party the subject of ridicule with their obviously paranoid, reactionary rantings and conduct. These folks have hid under their rock, emerging every now and then, but have never had the national spotlight so much as they do today, because Fox has riled them up.

The establishment right has found them useful, for a time, but now that it is increasingly clear that these are simply crazy old Goldwater, Birch and Wallace people rebranded as a "new" movement, they will be shown the bottom of the bus.

It's about the way he makes something outlandish up and talks about if for weeks and concludes, after "investigating" the topic, that it is untrue.

Of course, during those weeks, he's repeated the outlandish claim over and over and over until it has a life of its own.

And I have to admit she is right. We all "get" these and find them humorous, but these clowns don't see why they are so stupid and they don't care. They are acting on emotion (fear, loathing, hatred) and that's more dangerous. And they have weapons.

They won't sustain any of this through November. They're peaking much too early for their limited attention spans.
