Obama picks Reagan's Ghost to be the next US Supreme Court Justice (warning: very long)
Edited on Fri Apr-16-10 12:45 AM by rpannier
What we’ve been hearing from other drunken, former Meth addicts in the news that it has been confirmed, President Barack Obama has chosen the ghost of former President Ronald Reagan to replace Justice Stevens on the United States Supreme Court.

LFN news was there covering the Republican Response to this shocking announcement:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and John McCain held a press conference within minutes of the announcement”

Sen. Mc Connell: Quite frankly, I am disappointed. The President never called me once to discuss putting Reagan’s Ghost on the Court. This is another example of the President’s arrogance in not dealing in a bi-partisan manner.

Sen McCain: The President has chosen another person whose shown poor judgment. I would be deeply concerned over what kind of decisions a man who said, “Deficits don’t matter.” would make.
Oh... And I'm not saying this because I'm bitter that I lost.

Senators Shelby and Sessions held a joint conference in Selma, Alabama that was attended by a guy we paid 15 bucks to video the conference:

Sessions: I can’t think of a worse choice. The President is either unconcerned with the Constitution or he’s getting really bad advise. This choice makes me wonder if he isn’t just really arrogant.

Shelby: I have to agree. I wonder if Obama isn’t really trying to destroy this country.

(The following exchange was picked up by the camera)

Sessions (whispering): Who did Obama pick?

Shelby: No idea.

House Members were also quick to jump in on the President’s choice:

Rep Boehner: My concern over this rests on Reagan’s questionable patriotic behavior. He met with Gorbachev how many times? Never once did he lay down the law. He engaged in negotiations, which only served to weaken America and our subordinates…I mean allies.

Rep Cantor: I’d go a step further and ask, “How do we know that Reagan wasn’t giving the Soviets our nuclear launch codes? I’m not saying he did, but there’s always that high degree of probability.

The previous president, George Bush Jr also had this to say

Former President Bush (II): My concern is that Reagan made decisions that left this country weaker. As Colin Powell noted, Rumsfeld and Reagan had an argument towards the end of Reagan’s Presidency about Reagan’s decision to not fund Star War. Reagan said it was too expensive and wouldn’t be effective. Reagan, like Obama, seemed to view himself as an expert of defense. Where did Reagan and Obama get their expertise?

Former Senate and House members also gave their views on the President’s choice:

Newt Gingrich: Appallingly bad choice. Reagan signed the highest tax hike in our nation’s history. You can bet he’ll be the voice of the tax-and-spend liberals.

Virgil Goode: The whole situation in the Middle East is due to Reagan’s inept handling of the fall of the Soviet Union. Instead of carpet bombing the Arab World and Nuking the Soviet Union in 1990, he did nothing.

Former US Senator Rick Santorum was a guest on CNBC:

Rick Santorum: A horrible choice. What was Reagan’s occupation for most of his life? He was an actor. An actor who will bring those Hollywood values to the Court. He won’t be a voice for America’s oppressed majority: God-fearing, white, Christian, patriotic, conservative Americans.

Fox News Sean Hannity hosted Sarah Palin, Oliver North, Michelle Bachman and Jonah Goldberg to talk about the nominee:

Hannity: So, you disapprove of this poorly thought out choice?

Palin: You betcha. Here again Obama is pushing one of his terrorist friends on good middle-Americans.

Hannity: Terrorist?

Palin: Yes. Does anyone remember Khomeni? He was a terrorist.

Bachmann: And an Islamo-fascist.

Palin: Reagan sent him a cake. I’m sure he probably called him and sang Happy Birthday to him, while they talked about hating freedom.

Bachmann: Everyone remembers Iran-Contra.

Hannity: Colonel North. You are a patriotic American who loves this country. Yet, you were involved in Iran-Contra I think.

North: I’m glad you mentioned it Sean. I was in on the Contra part. I had no idea we were doing business with the Islamo-Al-Qaeda-Fascist Freedom-hating Iranian Government.

Hannity: What did you do when you learned about the connection?

North: I went straight to Reagan’s office and I told him, “Reagan, I can’t be a part of an operation that gives aid to a terrorist organization that destabilizes a legitimate government and murders innocent people, including some prominent religious figures who oppose them because they violate human rights.”

Hannity: You mean the Iranian Government.

North: Correct. The Contras were lovers of freedom. They'd never do those things.

Goldberg: My concern Sean, is based on Reagan’s voting record. He voted for Franklin Roosevelt at least three times and as I’ve proven in my book, Roosevelt = Stalin = Hitler.

Glenn Beck: We ordinary citizens...
We concerned patriotic Americans should be unnerved about this narcissistic, extremist being on the Court. We’ve all heard of the Reagan Revolution. He named it after himself. How arrogant is that?
Why not the “Republican Revolution?” Or the “I Love America Revolution?”
Because, it was all about him.
And further who are revolutionaries? Let’s look to history. V.I. Lenin, Fidel Castro, Mao, Ho Chi Mihn. Those men were revolutionaries.
Am I saying Reagan is Mao, or Lenin, or Minh? No, I never said that. But... He could be just as bad, or even worse. He could be all of those men plus Hitler, Mussolini, Saddam and Gandhi all wrapped into one.

Rush Limbaugh said this on his show:

Limbaugh: This is clearly an affirmative action choice. He obviously chose Reagan’s Ghost as a way of appealing to the dead around the country. The man never held a law license. It’s an affirmative action choice or it’s a pay back to his Deceased Chicago Constituency.

Catholic League Representative Bill Donohoe had this to say on EWTV

Bill Donohoe: Why didn’t he pick a Catholic? We are under-represented and oppressed.

On CNN, David Gergen gave his analysis

Gergen: Well, I think the Republicans bring up a lot of valid points:
The first is the arrogance of this administration in not consulting them about this choice. I mean, would it have been that difficult to ask them for a list of candidates and then choose from the list?
Rep Cantor also brings up a good point. How do we know Reagan didn’t give the Soviets the launch codes? We don’t know that he did, but we also don’t know that he didn’t.
I also think Rush is probably on target, this could easily be an affirmative action choice or payback.
I also think his association with Ayatollah Khomeni in the 80’s is a disturbing problem.
