I'm sitting on the side of the road with a Rottweiler lab mix who got hit by a car
Edited on Fri Apr-16-10 07:16 AM by xultar
I just got off the red eye from sfo. I'm on my way home still almost on airport property. I see a couple with a dog. I find a place to u turn and try to help. The other folks called the cops. Now I'm waiting and comforting the pooch. She is so awesome. I'm almost positive she'll be put down. She can't move her back left leg and hip. I gave her water and dog treats from my car. She is such a lover but I can't keep her. I'm blubbering.

She's beautiful. I wish I could help the poor girl out. I'm glad you and the couple were able to give her some comfort at least. Stuff like this just rips my heart out.

3. I'm so sorry to hear about the dog.
I hope she'll be OK, but you're very kind to try to provide some comfort to her during this time.

I have no patience or sympathy for people who allow their pets to wander loose, because that allows things like this to happen.

Thanks for being kind.

11. she will get love and attention from a vet when the police come
hopefully she will make a recovery and someone will adopt her. I am going to put that out there as a prayer.if not, she will be welcomed by a greater love if she does not make it. Thats where i am putting my energy, that she is now in hands of love by you, and knows she isnt alone.
and if her body dies, well, then she is free to wander with other dogs in some greater place of love.
most importantly, she should not be made to suffer in pain. thank you for being with her.

15. Xultar, she is so adorable...I would offer to take her if I didn't live so far away (Chicago)
If you take her to a "no-kill" shelter, she won't be put down!....She's a beautiful dog and Rotties are popular, so she'd probably get adopted.

You're a sweetheart to look after her!

i hate this stuff. breaks my heart.
would you mind giving an update? or maybe we don't want to know.
i'd rant about people and their pets, but it might make me go next door and scream at my neighbor for leaving her dog out all day...and i'm not in the mood to get arrested.

21. Did she have tags? While you are calling rescues, call vets & news organizations to try to get
coverage... Animal stories of abuse always seem to get coverage and someone typically does step forward.... I've got my own shelter problem at the moment :( All I can say is, there are good ones and bad ones.... ones that care and ones that don't.... good luck, I hope you can find her help.

Can you take her even temporarily?? Buy some time until you can get a group to take her? I can get my sister in Texas on this right away (she arranges rescues) but we will need a little bit of time. PM me.

40. I hope your efforts are successful, but if they are not, remember that
you made a huge effort on her behalf. Also, being put down humanely is much better than dying a slow death on the side of the road, in pain and alone. This may not be much comfort to you right now, but I commend you for doing what you can. Good luck to you and to her.

Thanks!

One of my favorite professors was struck by an ambulance when he was trying to put an injured dog into his car.

That dog is SO cute. I hate to hear she's going to be put down.
I'm looking at my dog as I type this...:-(

thank you for helping her. Hopefully she'll find a shelter or sponsor before it's too late. Presumably no tags...maybe she slipped her collar.

Where is she? What state? How can we help her...she is beautiful. Just because she can't move her hip or pelvis doesn't mean it's a catastrophic injury...

30. Call Paces Ferry Veterinay Clinic
Call Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic at 770-436-9822. They do a lot of work with local rescue groups and will take emergency cases. They're really a terrific group of people. Ask for Dr. Ferrin or Dr. Whittle- he's usually in on Fridays.

31. I'm bawling for so many reasons!
I'm bawling because that is such a beautiful little face.

I'm bawling because I don't want her to die. I wish there was something that could be done.

I'm bawling because you took the time to help and most people wouldn't. It reminds me that there are still good people in the world.

I'm bawling because this situation gets repeated thousands and thousands of times because sometimes people are not careful enough with their pets.

Please, everyone, always be sure your pets are safely confined. Double check, and keep them safe.

If she has blood in her stool and is still alive and kicking, it must be treatable. What a sweet face on that dog. I hope she makes it and finds a home. She's really lucky you came along, that's for sure.
