McConnell explains Wall Street meeting with Cornyn

"Why was Sen. Cornyn there?," Crowley queried. "Candy, is the one who is trying to politicize this issue. We are the ones who are trying to get it right," he replied.

Crowley pressed McConnell again about Cornyn's attendance at the meeting. "But what did the Wall Street people tell you?"

"Well, they have concerns about the bill," the Senate minority leader explained, adding that he thought the Senate ought to "go back to the drawing board" and fix the legislation.

"Let me try one more time," Crowley volleyed. "Why was Sen. Cornyn in that meeting of all of the other senators you could have taken with you?"

Well, here is a rare instance where a journalist actually tries to get a straight answer from a Republican such as why were McConnell (Kentucky) and Cornyn (Texas) meeting with Wall Street executives, then immediately shouting out Frank Lutz talking points after the meeting that bore no relationship to reality. So, kudos to Candy even though she did not really get a straight answer with respect to what exactly do the Republicans (publicly) want on the bill. Privately, of course, they are trying to strip out regulation of derivatives.

Sadly, this is the exception rather than the rule as Republicans typically get a free pass while the President gets quizzed about procedural minutia on health care reform on Fox News, rather than discussing the substance.

2. I think McConnell might be getting a bit nervous.
He does not look to good with his double speak and shenanigans of the past week.

4. Sadly, It Is Rare That A Journalist Pushes A Republican Beyond The Frank Lutz Talking Points...
Republicans sound amazingly stupid the moment you push them off script on the Frank Lutz talking points, since they bear no relationship to reality.

5. It all comes back to the media, and its inability to go beyond superficial.

3. This triggers an important point, an overconfidence by the GOP when facing the media.
Since they are truly not pressed they embrace the air time to dish out party talking points. What Crowley did is what should be done across the board. No appearence on any of the roundtable show should be fluff or a free ride.
