Perry: Anyone Who’s Not A ‘Rank Political Hack’ Realizes That Bush Was A ‘Very, Very Good President’

Gov. Rick Perry (R) — who is running for reelection and holds a narrow lead over his Democratic challenger Bill White — is engaged in a desperate appeal to the conservative base to help put him over the top.

Perry, who is being rumored as a leading 2012 presidential candidate, was asked by the Texas Tribune’s Evan Smith whether he considers former President George W. Bush to be a “great” president. Bush was “a very, very good President,” Perry responded, adding that he may go down as “great” one day:

PERRY: At the end of the day, when the history books are written, I think George W. Bush will go down as a very, very good President. Approaching great? I don’t know yet because I don’t know if we’ve seen the –

A year and a half since he’s been out of office, this may be a little bit early to write George’s history. But here’s why he was an incredibly good President: because this man kept America safe. <…>

Anyone who is not a rank political hack, who has an agenda, and looks at this President’s efforts — I mean, there are two things that I think people judge Presidents on: their safety and the economy.

7. Two things to judge a president: Safety and the Economy
Let's see, 9/11, so that's pretty much a failure. And the economy tanked thanks to the Bush administration's overreaction to 9/11, miring us in two hopeless occupations while cutting taxes on the overrich, turning budget surpluses into the largest deficits our country has ever seen. So, that's 0 for 2, but qualifies in Perry World as "very, very good."

News flash for Governor Dimwit and the state that keeps electing him: 0 for 2 isn't very, very good. It's very, very bad. As bad as you can do with two chances.

GW Bush was a great president.

Gotta find a way to reduce that down to a bumpersticker.

spent us into the poorhouse, in CHINA. And put education on a downward spiral from which generations will suffer (but his worthless brother made a mint), and took the world's good will toward the us and wiped his ass with it.

Yeah, Perry has a point.... and it is the spindle on his desk, the one that holds the daily talking points issued to pawns.

edited for typo

Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 05:16 AM by Solly Mack
It's not as if Bush was merely a bad president...he was (is) a war criminal president who caused great harm to the country and many, many others. It in no ways speaks well of the person who would look for anything good in that. Absolutely nothing Bush did or will do mitigates any of his crimes.
