Sorry, that's a horrible non sequitor. You should spend some time down here...the "good" guys and the "bad" ones walk around with real, actual automatic guns (machine guns), not the semi-auto peashooters that people up in the US get all lathered up about...and sometimes we can't tell who is who. Thing is, actual innocent people rarely get hurt...most of the casualties are suffered by corrupt cops and drug producers.

has such insecurity issues, that they have to walk about in public with a gun. Many people say it is because it is men with manhood issues, but I think it is just because they are safe and know there is no good reason to carry a gun around in America, well in most places. Certainly not in one of our state capitols. You would just have to live in America to understand.

79. That sums it up,
unless you factor in those who die merely by being associated by those who live by the sword. If cigarette smoking and drunk driving never did any injury, physical or economic, to others I'd have no problem with either. I have a problem with people who carry because they are trying to make a statement. Sane people don't feel the need.

31. Likely, nothing would happen.
A few people might be startled and jump (as would anybody hearing an unexpected firecracker).. but that does not mean they would unholster thier firearms and start shooting. What exactly would they be shooting at?

You wouldn't expect a group of police officer to start blasting furiously at the sound of firecracker, would you?
Why would people lawfully carrying firearms elicit any different expectations?

I'm sure their militia groups spend a lot of time in the woods working on shoot\don't shoot scenarios and not blasting away at targets pretending it's the evil government thugs come to take their guns and make 'em commies with health care. No, none of these folks look like they're playing an endless loop of Red Dawn in their heads.

Wait... no, that's exactly what they look like.

?1271709562194

These aren't just "gun owners". They're a self selecting group of revolution fetishist military cosplay enthusiasts. Exactly the folks I wouldn't trust with a gun. Not when they're getting all worked up about being made "slaves" by FEMA or whatever it is this week. Not around me anyway.

I say this as a gun owner and someone who has enjoyed target shooting since I was a kid.

49. Generally, people who choose to carry firearms know the laws backwards and forwards.
It doesn't take a high degree of training to not whip out a gun and start blasting because you heard a loud noise. People who carry typically know that you can't shoot (or even draw your weapon) at an unconfirmed target. keep in mind, surrounded by many people with guns, pulling yours for ANY reason would probably be the LAST thing you'd want to do. If you tossed a firecracker, you'd likely end up with a bunch of people looking around bewildered. Maybe you'd even get a few knuckheads putting a hand thier pistols without drawing them.

As you said, they (people who are toting these guns around) are a self selecting group. Sure, there are some idiots in every demographic... but on the whole gun owners tend to be very law abiding. In fact, as evidenced in state CCW data, you are more likely to be wrongly shot by a police officer than a person with a CCW permit.

I have to laugh at the irony if saying this... but, don't be so paranoid. They're just a bunch of teabaggers.

Start blasting away at the sound of a firecracker.

I'm saying I think these morans probably would. These people are so keyed up for a fight I expect some of them would pull a weapon and a few might be dumb enough to squeeze off a couple. See, I agree with you, there are idiots in every group. Over there we have a selection of some of the idiots in the teabagger\militia crowd. Not your average ccw permit holder and a freakin long way from your average gun owner.

I'm not paranoid or afraid of 'em. I just think they're dumb.

62. Don't think the cops are that well trained
I've seen some abysmal gun handling and shooting by cops.

But getting back to these folks from pics I've seen of their handgun carry gear a lot of them look like freakin' rookies who are too cheap to buy a good rig for their handgun. Too many $19.99 cheapass not made to even fit your model of gun cloth holsters.

When I see someone come to a competition with such a rig they usually haven't really practiced with their handgun in carry situations. They get an eye opening when they have to draw, shoot, reload with their rig. And many times they also get an eye opening finding out the numerous malfunctions they have with the handgun either because they didn't pick out a reliable handgun or they have some bad habits with the gun.

Just being a cop doesn't mean you listened to the training. Enough incidents have certainly proved that.

As for these guys, that's why I call em "revolution fetishist military cosplay enthusiasts". There's a lot of fantasy going on when a 65 year old morbidly obese accountant thinks he's gonna join the revolution and take down the government from his deer stand.

It's about as likely as that 13 year old girl meeting the sexy non-threatening vampire of her dreams.

6. My thoughts exactly
They have been advertising this for quite awhile and all they get is about 2000 in DC & maybe a 100 if lucky from what I'm reading across the river in VA????????????

BTW Washington Post has a slide show. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/gallery/2010/04/19/GA2010041902741.html?hpid=artslot

Not a very impressive showing.

WASHINGTON -- Without firearms, but armed with loudspeakers, pro-gun posters and "Don't Tread on Me" flags, about 2,000 gun-rights advocates assembled near the Washington Monument today to tell lawmakers to stop infringing on their right to keep and bear arms.

The Second Amendment March was organized to commemorate the first shots fired in the Revolutionary War at Lexington and Concord.

But it also falls on the 15th anniversary of the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City by homegrown terrorist Timothy McVeigh. Several hundred yards away, American flags ringing the monument flew at half staff marking the Oklahoma tragedy.

Against the backdrop of a large American flag onstage, speakers fired up the crowd, saying their lifestyle is under attack.

What's sad is, I can pretty much guarantee that there are more armed people walking around in my neighborhood even as I type this than there are at this rally or what have you...the difference being that the people in my neighborhood are carrying unregistered, concealed, loaded guns. I don't really support that, so much.

68. I find the things I like about my neighborhood outweigh the things I don't
It's more or less infested with MS13, mostly, but we haven't had a serious gun battle in the streets in a couple years. Besides, I can't afford to move, even if I wanted to...rent here is ridiculous, but we've been in the same place for long enough that what we pay (thanks to the limits on annual rent increases) is a bargain, relatively speaking. And I love the city, despite its flaws.

70. I love my neighborhood too
And rent control is the only thing that makes it affordable. :)

We have a website that helps keep everyone up to speed on crimes in the neighborhood and things to look out for. So that helps.

I suppose no place is completely crime free. Stay safe!

40. There are probably more people carrying guns in my local mall
right now than are at the "rally"...they have been trying to raise a crowd for over a year online on many gun forums. They sent a message, alright...

50. From some of the pics I saw some of them looked like
they don't know much about carry. Holsters were cheap looking and something when I see at handgun IDPA competitions labels the owner a rookie at defensive carry.

51. Probably new to open carry.
I know I don't have a retention holster designed for open carry. I'd probably have to go to bass pro / cabelas and see what they had in stock.

58. A lot of what Bass Pro, Cabela's and Gander Mountain
are really not good holsters for everyday carry.

Here's the kind of holster I consider kind of what a rookie carries.

And I've seen many holsters like this in pics of these rallies. So you buy a $500 gun and put it in a $19.99 holster.

61. Me? Nah, I've got an MTAC IWB.
But without doing any research, for a single day event, I'd probably consider something cheap like an uncle mike's.

64. Are you talking one day event like the gun rallies or a competition
Edited on Mon Apr-19-10 05:38 PM by RamboLiberal
But I thought the point was these are the people who carry every day.

BTW I've seen many of the open carry advocates with these cheap ass rigs.

I think a lot of them have either never taken a tactical handgun class or shot in competitons other than maybe a bullseye shoot.

And amazing how many don't even have a good carry belt.

67. That always amazes me (the belt)..
That is the single best investment you can make, regardless of what holster / gun combo you have.

Re this event, I was never sure if this was specifically meant for people who open carry every day.

71. But I'd figure most of the people showing up carry
Edited on Mon Apr-19-10 06:05 PM by RamboLiberal
either concealed or openly every day. I just figured they should have better holsters. As I said many of them looked like clueless rookies which makes me wonder.

This clown who showed up outside an Obama event for instance looks like a complete doofus with that "tactical" thigh rig.

Actually they are, the true liberal media (like HuffPo) are covering it.

Were they supposed to be a miyon?

66. What is it they are protesting?
Seriously. I watched a little of the coverage on CNN during my lunch break and the speaker was that Gun Owners of America lunatic and he was just calling Obama a socialist like they do at the teabagging events but nobody ever mentioned any specific government policy they were opposing. It was like a mini rally of the armed auxillary of the teabaggers - nothing but vague complaints about non-existant socialism. Did I miss something?

83. Funny thing - I've been looking all over the MSM...
All I can find are a few cleverly shot photos. You know - the Big telephoto lens compresses a small crowd to look like a big crowd shot, and the shoot from a really low angle so no one can see the crowd is really just one row deep shot. These "events" must be a total bust as none of the MSM are featuring rabid gun carrying lunatics on their front pages...

Personally I don't have a problem with people owning guns - but I DO have a problem with people using their guns in a way that intimidates ordinary citizens - which is exactly what these events are designed to do.
