Marijuana growers in Colorado Springs.
http://www.gazette.com/articles/marijuana-97332-growing-many.html

<snip>
Making a business out of growing and selling marijuana is tougher than it used to be.

Many of the thousands of people who attended the first Colorado Springs Medical Cannabis Expo found that out Sunday. They were bombarded with information about laws, zoning, restrictions and up-front costs.

“There’s a lot more to it than what I had thought,” said Loretta Duran, who had hoped to grow marijuana on her family ranch and sell it to dispensaries. She found out Sunday that she’s not allowed to grow marijuana where she lives.

<snip>
She wasn’t the only one disappointed. Several people walked angrily out of a presentation on medical marijuana laws when they realized just how tough it would be to start their own business.

<snip>
Attendees walked from booth to booth and collected swag from presenters who told them how to advertise their business, get credit or get legal representation. No marijuana samples were distributed, though some dispensaries did hand out baked goods without cannabis.

“They taste the same with marijuana in it,” Garduno said.

1. CO MMJ Regulations Have Helped "Weed" Out
the idiots, losers and profiteers. For the first few years there were no regulations: people who had never smoked pot in their lives were opening dispensaries because they thought they could make an overnight fortune. People were selling edibles made in their kitchen at home, with no dosing instructions or ingredient list.

I don't like all the CO regulations but they have had a positive impact on the industry.

2. Probably shouldn't worry about local regulations
After all, Colorado Springs can't even afford to turn on its street lights anymore. They're suddenly going to find the money to fund the enforcement officers for business licenses, zoning permits and all the other stuff?

3. Colorado Springs has been rather liberal with the marijuana dispensaries...
There was an ad in this week's "Independent" that advertised a Doctor on site if you needed medical marijuana. I have not heard of that anywhere else in the country. :-)

4. that's terrible advice
the DEA is allowed a free hand to prosecute anyone who does not directly follow the state and local medical laws. It has already occurred several times. Your "insight" could get someone sent to federal prison.

5. Anyone who follows anonymous advice
From someone whose online handle is "gratuitous" is probably going to have more trouble in life than just federal prison. But feel free to offer it as a defense at trial if you’re so inclined!

6. "but the internet said I could grow 500 plants with no permit!"
Awesome.
