4. I got called racist for using the words "redneck" and "cracker".
Which I think are descriptive.

How about "residents of White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Dumbfuckistan"???

7. Reminds me a lot
of Germany in the early 1930s. Teabaggers, racists, militia morons, etc. Different terminology, same dynamic.

11. What's really depressing is that the race to the bottom is still in progress.
Every time one wingnut establishes a new subterranean low, another digs the pit a little deeper. I fear there will be blood (again) before we start up again.

15. Thank you..and you are right. DU is somewhat of an oasis in a desert of
total mediocrity and ignorance....

I was on jury duty yesterday..and I could not believe the level of incomprehension among the vast majority of those that were in the auditorium with me.
Forms that were supposed to have been filled out at home...with one's name and address, and other simple information..were not filled out. Instructions on how to do so had to be given...step by step by step...and repeated more than once.
I felt like I was in a kindergarten class room..not a group of adults who were potential jurors, who would have to decide matters that might make a huge difference in the lives of other people!!!
Depressing hardly even begins to describe how I felt...I felt angry and amazed and speechless at the rampant ignorance and apathy

17. I don't feel so much dragged down to the LCD myself
as I feel completely SURROUNDED by LCD information. Nothing -- and I mean NOTHING -- in the public sphere even rises to the level of grade school communication. The stupid really gets to me.

K&R, btw.

20. something is really wrong in this country
my MIL grew up in West Virginia during the Great Depression. WV was Not a shining example of intellectualism by any stretch of the imagination. Yet, MIL is reasonably well read, enjoys classical music, understands art has a reasonable background to debate a topic. She's an RN who never completely finished college.

Yet, I am scared to compare her to the average Yuppie of today with advanced degrees. The Yuppie comes out far worse.
