HuffPo - John McCain: Illegal Immigrants 'Intentionally Causing Accidents On The Freeway'
Who knew that appealing to racism and xenophobia would be the winning strategy in 2010?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/20/john-mccains-strange-clai_n_544559.html

In an appearance on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Tuesday Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) offered a strange defense of a stringent new Arizona immigration bill that could lead to racial profiling.

When asked by host Bill O'Reilly if he was comfortable with the possibility of racial profiling, McCain said he wold be "very sorry" if it happened, but suggested it's justified because of "the people whose homes and property are being violated. It's the drive-by that -- the drivers of cars with illegals in it that are intentionally causing accidents on the freeway."

McCain added: "Look, our border is not secured. Our citizens are not safe." But the Arizona senator did not provide any additional details to back up his assertion about cars carrying illegal immigrants "intentionally causing accidents."

7. I think he is referring to a insurance fraud scheme in which people get ...
deliberately rear ended to collect money. Apparently, there was a rash of these involving people who where not in the country legally.

It is an absolutely ridiculous reason to harass people because they look Mexican. It's taking away the rights of millions on Americans because a few people committed an insurance crime.

John McCain has completely lost his integrity. It's not that he just stands for nothing anymore, he has turned his back on everything he fought for all of his life and knowingly thrown his lot in with the biggest racists since the Nazis.

I never thought much of him but I'm pretty sure he must hate himself enough for both of us these days.

15. That is strange
You would think that if you were here illegally, the last thing you would want is to something that definitely will put you in contact with the police, who would check your identity.

16. Those instigating the crimes are citizens. They just use undocumented folks...
like mules. They are the ones who slam on the brakes and get hit. These are poor people who can't find work and are so desperate they risk their lives doing this. They get shit for it and the crook who has the policy gets the real money. It was a big deal about three years ago but since it's become known it's not really happening anymore.

There isn't much for anyone to blame on the poor people so the racists types keep talking about it. John McCain is just grasping at straws. He is a sad old man.

17. That really is sick
It really is sad to see what McCain has become, even though I never bought into the idea that he was heroic - though the circumstances of his imprisonment were.

2. That makes no sense at all!!! Why would illegals intentionally bring
notice to themselves by creating an accident on the freeway?

9. That's what I thought. They would have to know that law enforcement would be involved
in the investigation and that they would be expected to show identification at some point. If I was in a country illegally, I would try to stay as inconspicuous as possible.

11. Accidents bring law enforcement & along the border
the Border Patrol will also stop by to "assist" (read: Harass victims & rescue workers to prove they are in the US legally; a friend's daughter & co-workers were put in detention by Border Patrol because they saw a car accident outside their workplace & ran out to help. A couple of BP were driving by & decided that was a good opportunity to check for illegals; didn't let them go back inside to get their IDs, called them all "wet backs" & drove them to detention.)

14. Wow...This pathetic creature almost became President...
Sounds more like senility than racism though, not that it's much room for comfort.
