I've never really understood the reasoning of people who vote Republican.
It's the Democrats who improve education, and health care, etc. It's the Republicans who take money out of educational programs, who don't want health care for everyone, and who want to get rid of Social Security. I've always seen the Democrats as the builders of our country and the Republicans as the spoilers.

When I try to visualize what this country would be like if the Republicans got their way in everything, it wouldn't be The United States of America anymore. It would be a rundown wasteland. I don't get why Republican voters don't get that. They shoot themselves in the foot (with the guns they keep toting around) every time they vote for a rethug.

3. What's interesting is that a lot of these people, who like you said, vote
Republican because their parents did, think they are Republican because they believe in smaller government and fiscal responsibility. Which as we all know makes no sense in this day and age. I think the fatal flaw in their reasoning is that they don't reason at all. If you ask someone how a high deficit affects them, they can't answer you.

18. The are easily led. They have no will power and can be tricked
into it. If you notice the good old boy syndrome shows how they feel. They drink they rev up their engines and roll on down the road to the voting booths. If they had brains they would not vote for a party that is only out to fleece them.

4. I never saw much "reasoning" or thought involved in it - some of my republican relatives
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 01:40 AM by old mark
seem like decent people, yet at family gatherings will sit calmly and talk about "dirty jews", the terrible immigrant problem and even how the evil refugees from hurricane Katrina are ruining their city. They make a lot of money in jobs that put others out of work-one worked for about 10 years sending US jobs to India-hate the idea of health insurance reform and think the Democrats are dangerous to America. They think Newt Gingrich is "so smart!" and admire him a lot.

They are good people till you really spend time with them and learn how nasty and hate full they are.

7. just got into a "debate"
with several online. I am shocked at the hatred these people have for their fellow human beings. I believe that these are people who have such resentment and contempt for anyone they deem beneath them that so that is really all they care about. They are not thinking of the world they live in or the welfare of others - except the rich.
I believe these people truly enjoy experiencing the emotions fo hatred and resentment. When others suffer, they feel better about themselves.

Pretty sickening.

8. Both race and religion have a great deal to do with it.
Most Republicans are white and Christian. They view the Democratic party as only caring about "those people" i.e. non-whites and the poor. They view many Democrats as Atheists or Gays, or both, and the Democratic Party as the party of non-Christians.

The old 3G mantra of "God, Guns and Gays" has a great deal to do with their worldview.

And I say this even though I support the 2nd Amendment and the RKBA.

Truly they only care about 3 "rights"...

(1)RKBA
(2)Property rights
(3) The "right" to make money (aka the "right to steal")

10. They vote republicon for 1 reason to keep anyone they deen unworthy from getting government hand
outs. You see it with the tea bagger nit wits, I am entitled to my government hand outs but those people I dislike shouldn't expect the government to support them. I've seen the same exact people when they worked for union jobs, they worked hard and they deserved their $25 an hour pay check but only they should have been paid that rate. They found reasons, oh that lazy so and so why he pays a doctor to give him a sick day excuse or that one over their pays his buddy to clock out for him or that guy why he purposely doesn't put out high production numbers so when they set production limits on jobs, the numbers are lower then what they would be if he pushed himself.

Yet these same ones complaining are just as guilty as the people they are bitching about. Reminds me of a cousin that I had that recently passed away who was a retired GM worker. He went on rants about the dirty low down thieves that worked in his GM plant that was stealing tools from GM, most of his rants were about black workers stealing tools. Funny thing is 3/4th of his electrical tools were property of GM and he often bragged how he had been able to walk out the security gate with electrical tools, not once did that ever enter when he was ranting though. This is the tea bagger movement in a nut shell, never look at myself just complain loudly about others cause they do worse then me besides I deserve it they don't.

12. The ability to connect the dots between action and consequence
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 06:08 AM by lunatica
is a sign of higher intelligence. Not all are born with equal intelligence. People who vote Republican vote on a totally selfish basis. People who vote Democratic do so based on what is best for everyone. Republicans think in the 'I' mode while Democrats think in the 'we' mode. And contrary to 'conventional wisdom' these facts don't make Democrats altruistic or Republicans practical. It's just a matter of being able to intelligently connect the dots between action and consequence.

You don't have to be an idealist and altruistic to see the larger picture as, for example, understanding that a better education for all people will make the country stronger in every aspect. In science, in innovation, in health, in leadership, in wealth and even in military might. There's also no altruism in realizing that poverty has a deleterious effect on the country which would be turned around into a positive effect if people were lifted out of poverty and allowed to be an asset rather than a drain through no fault of their own. But that kind of thinking requires, well, actual thinking.

13. Selfishness
Combined with a healthy doseage of ignorance and arrogance; both a byproduct of being self-centered. The GOOP preys on those who want certainty in their lives...the need to feel "superior" and "powerful". The big lie is then re-inforced with the mantra that the GOOP represents "prosperity"...since they have so many big money people, it's sure to trickle down to the little guy...or so they've been told. The only thing in their way are those evil "libruls" and Democrats. The same thing goes for a "moral" society...absolutism means a puritanical world that many are fed from their earliest days in religious homes and schools. The GOOP has co-opted the concept (not that it ever existed) that they are the paragons of virtue and, again, the only thing standing in the way for a "heavenly" world are those evil "libruls" and Democrats.

It's a combination of demonizing and then playing the victim...it's been very effective for the GOOP in brainwashing a quarter of this country's population into buying their lies and comeons. And it's all centered around "me". Listen to 'em...all their bitches are about how things affect them, not anyone else. Total selfishness.

19. I think for my family members, it's racism
Seriously, all the repugs in my family, including my brother, are very racist. The idea of their tax $$ going to help anyone who's not white causes them to foam at the mouth.

My brother, however, takes it a step further: he thinks the ONLY purpose of the federal govt. is to fund the military and fight wars. Nothing else. Not education, infrastructure, ensuring a safe food supply, nothing.

For the rest of my sorry lot of kinfolk, they object to "welfare queens" getting their money, but if it's something that benefits THEM (such as unemployment), they approve of it--for themselves.

20. And the rethugs
keep using the adjective "religious". Even as an atheist, I know that "religious" is supposed to include compassion and charity.

"In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus proclaims that how you treat the hungry, the thirsty, the sick and other "least of these," is how you treat Jesus himself. And if you fail to help the "least of these," Jesus promises, he will send you to Hell."

21. Here's your answer...
Sadomasochism

Sadism is pleasure in the infliction of pain or humiliation upon another person, while masochism is
pleasure in receiving the pain.<1> These practices are often related and are collectively known as
sadomasochism as well as S&M or SM. These terms may be used clinically, in psychotherapy, to describe
mental illnesses, psychopathology or counterproductive coping mechanisms.
