Republican Actress Heather Locklear Arrested for Hit-and-Run
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 02:03 PM by Ian David
Heather Locklear was arrested for hit-and-run last Saturday ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ at around 4 AM, someone heard a crash near North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, CA.

The person who heard the crash didn't call the Ventura County Sheriff's Department until 7:48 PM that night. Deputies went out to the area and found a knocked over "no parking" sign and obvious signs of a car that went up the curb, striking the sign.

<snip>

The offense is a misdemeanor, so Locklear was not taken into custody -- just cited and released. An official from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department tells TMZ a hit-and-run citation constitutes an "arrest."

Back in 2008, Locklear was arrested in Santa Barbara for allegedly driving under the influence of prescription medications.

2. hit and run for knocking down a sign?
wow...when you think of hit and run you think of hitting a person or a vehicle. and the pics show them giving her a field sobriety test at what has to be hours after the accident...

weird...

9. Yep--leaving the scene of ANY accident can result in that charge, regardless
of damage done in many jurisdictions.

She damaged a sign that gets replaced by taxes....so, yeah.

10. The pics are from an entirely different incident in 2008. She was just cited for hitting the sign...
not arrested. Really misleading title for the OP, I gotta say.

15. Even if that's true, it's still weaselly. She was neither arrested nor ever placed into custody...
so headlining an article stating that she was "arrested" is misleading, regardless of whether a misdemeanor citation in Calif. "counts" as an arrest. (Being unfamiliar with state law there, I'll have to take your word for it.)

23. Actually, she was in 'custody.' Let me tell you why that's a good thing.
In 'custody' she had 4th, 5th, and 6th amendment rights that she doesn't have otherwise.

13. They call it leaving the scene of a property damage accident
Generally the seriousness of the offense is dependent on the estimated damage.

4. I live nearby in a less affluent part of town. When
my house was burglarized a few years ago, the cops could not have cared less. An officer took three hours to arrive, proclaimed that dusting for prints would be "too messy" and probably "useless" since the crook would never be caught. After he left there was no further follow up. For swank North Ranch they apparently have the resources not only to investigate a sign knocked down near the Country Club but to track down the car responsible. Unbelievable.

5. I wasn't aware of her political affiliation
but it doesn't surprise me in the least. I'll just add her to my pay-no-mind list of no-talent, has-been ex-celebrities.

It's a shitty thing to do, but liberal actors have done the same. Halle Berry did it.

18. agreed
If a republican office holder (or a Democratic office holder) breaks the law, reporting that fact and their party affiliation makes sense. But Locklear hardly is a highly visible partisan. If Ted Danson or another celebrity who supports Democrats was involved in a similar incident and it was being characterized as "Democrat so and so in hit and run", I suspect most folks on DU would be justifiably outraged.
