The World Bank is throwing open all of its data to the public for free.
Big news today for data geeks and anyone with any interest in world development: The World Bank, which exhaustively compiles worldwide data on quality of life and economics, is throwing open all of its data to the public. Formerly, getting that data required an extremely expensive subscription. As a bonus, the data is presented in a fancy-dancy new visual interface.

Have a numbers overload...

1. The world is becoming more transparent.
This is good news, and a harbinger of things to come.

3. That app is very impressive, thanks for the heads up.
Why wasn't this data always public?

5. I seriously doubt that they'll air their dirty laundry.

Suspect this move is more opaque than transparent, and undoubtedly self serving.
