Do you care about polls?

I've been intrigued since the day I signed up on DU (2 years ago, but I've lurked since 2004) by the obsession with polls amongst fellow DU'ers; the "DU'ing" of polls especially. If polls are that important, why would we want to PURPOSELY skew a poll by flooding it with votes from one website? :shrug: A poll does not approve or disapprove legislation, it is an expression of an opinion; what do we accomplish, that's good for the world, in making these unscientific polls more unscientific and giving people a false impression of public opinion?

Just wondering about people's opinions on here. Do they matter to you? Should they matter to Democrats? What do they accomplish? Do you work harder/less hard at voicing your opinion based on poll results about it? Why do people care?

P.S. I thought about creating a poll to ask this question but didn't want to be overly-clever :)
