Sure seems like it.

Either that or just another way to get people to scapegoat and hate each other.

3. So you don't think this is underhanded way to lower wages across the board?

2. The immigration 'debate' is certainly about hate.
The sobs don't want a discussion. IMO, its not largely about wages; that's on the part of some in business.

6. It's the business elites who are to blame for the whole thing.
But no one wants to talk about them in earnest.

10. I don't think so.
They do profit, but we cannot forget the pervasive racism, us vs. them, in our culture.

15. Incidentally, some businesses.
Does not mean, imo, they are completely responsible.

9. The republicans are against it - that should disprove your hypothesis
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 04:07 PM by stray cat
I think a lot of it is racism and the desire to not have competition for jobs. For example - the damn foreigners are taking jobs I should get!

11. And US businesses don't want to pay workers decent wages...
and that's one of the reasons why this is happening.

Anything to get Joe Average to vote against his best interests.

12. Immigration REFORM (not debate) is backed by organized labor and the progressive caucus.
Those debating may have a variety of motivations - some selfish, some altruistic, but the unions and progressive caucus aren't supporting reform as a way to lower wages.

14. Big Business will work furiously against every worker protection they try to get in the reform.
By the time they were through with the STRIVE Act in 2007, it was riddled with so many abusive employer loopholes that many progressives could no longer support it.
