by Helen Cox

To all the “angry” Tea Partiers:
Did you get angry when the Supreme Court “Conservative” Five stopped a legal recount and appointed a President?
Did you get angry when Cheney allowed energy company officials to dictate energy policy while excluding any environmentalists from that meeting?
Did you get angry when Bush’s generals let Bin Laden escape from Tora Bora?
Did you get angry when a covert CIA operative was outed because her husband did his job and exposed Bush’s lies about yellowcake uranium?
Did you get angry when the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the John Warner Defense Bill were passed and our Constitutional rights were shredded?
Did you get angry when Bush illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us?
Did you get angry when it was revealed that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, and Rice all lied us into the illegal, unnecessary war on Iraq?
Did you get angry when Bush spent over 800 billion dollars (and counting) on the illegal, unnecessary Iraq war?
Did you get angry when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq?
Did you get angry as tens thousands of Americans and nearly one million Iraqis were killed or maimed in Bush’s illegal, unnecessary war?
Did you get angry when it was revealed U.S. soldiers and the CIA were torturing people, including in former KGB prisons?
Did you get angry when Bush admitted the U.S. government was illegally wiretapping Americans?
Did you get angry when it was revealed that Bush ignored many warnings of the 9/11 terrorism?
Did you get angry when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed Military Hospital while you claimed you “supported our troops”?
Did you get angry when...

Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 02:32 PM by BrklynLiberal
was running this country into the ground every which way but up?

These questions and their answers, or lack thereof, are all part of the reason you will NEVER convince me that all this crap is not RACISM by some other name. You can call horse poop by some other name, but it will still smell like horse poop!!!!

What if the Teabaggers Were All Black?

Or all brown -- Mexican-Americans? Or Arab-Americans?

Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters -- the black protesters -- spoke of the need for political revolution, and possibly even armed conflict in the event that laws they didn’t like were enforced by the government? Would these protesters -- these black protesters with guns -- be seen as brave defenders of the Second Amendment, or would they be viewed by most whites as a danger to the republic? What if they were Arab-Americans? Because, after all, that’s what happened recently when white gun enthusiasts descended upon the nation’s capital, arms in hand, and verbally announced their readiness to make war on the country’s political leaders if the need arose.

Imagine that white members of Congress, while walking to work, were surrounded by thousands of angry black people, one of whom proceeded to spit on one of those congressmen for not voting the way the black demonstrators desired. Would the protesters be seen as merely patriotic Americans voicing their opinions, or as an angry, potentially violent, and even insurrectionary mob? After all, this is what white Tea Party protesters did recently in Washington.

Imagine that a rap artist were to say, in reference to a white president: “He’s a piece of shit and I told him to suck on my machine gun.” Because that’s what rocker Ted Nugent said recently about President Obama.

To ask any of these questions is to answer them. Protest is only seen as fundamentally American when those who have long had the luxury of seeing themselves as prototypically American engage in it. When the dangerous and dark “other” does so, however, it isn’t viewed as normal or natural, let alone patriotic. Which is why Rush Limbaugh could say, this past week, that the Tea Parties are the first time since the Civil War that ordinary, common Americans stood up for their rights: a statement that erases the normalcy and “American-ness” of blacks in the civil rights struggle, not to mention women in the fight for suffrage and equality, working people in the fight for better working conditions, and LGBT folks as they struggle to be treated as full and equal human beings.

And this, my friends, is what white privilege is all about. The ability to threaten others, to engage in violent and incendiary rhetoric without consequence, to be viewed as patriotic and normal no matter what you do, and never to be feared and despised as people of color would be, if they tried to get away with half the shit we do, on a daily basis.

Game Over.

7. Yes, I saw this thread yesterday...
My question is, are they just protesting because the president is black? Are you suggesting that if Bill Clinton (for example) were president, and doing everything just like Obama is, the teabaggers would be okay with that?

of African tribesman with President Clinton's face?

I assume you have not heard or read anything at all about the protests.

Tea Party Protests: 'Ni**er,' 'Fa**ot' Shouted At Members Of Congress

http://www.bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2010/03/regarding_that_1.html
Regarding That Teabagger Racism Thing

To wit:

Tea partiers and other anti-health care activists are known to get rowdy, but today's protest on Capitol Hill--the day before the House is set to vote on historic health care legislation--went beyond the usual chanting and controversial signs, and veered into ugly bigotry and intimidation.

Civil rights hero Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and fellow Congressional Black Caucus member Andre Carson (D-IN) related a particularly jarring encounter with a large crowd of protesters screaming "kill the bill"... and punctuating their chants with the word "nigger."

Standing next to Lewis, emerging from a Democratic caucus meeting with President Obama, Carson said people in the crowd yelled, "kill the bill and then the N-word" several times, while he and Lewis were exiting the Cannon House office building.

Yeah, those tea party people sure are classy. I can't imagine how I could have ever thought racial bigotry was a feature of such a fine, upstanding movement. Apologies!

16. You'd certainly see less overt racism, no doubt,
but I think you'd still see the protests if the president was white. If, god forbid, Michael Steele was president pursuing a repuke agenda, do you think they'd still be protesting? Yes, racism is definitely a factor in how they protest, but policy is why they protest.

because, to us, we look for logic and reason in their argument. In their mind, it makes perfect sense.

26. I've seen it.
It changes nothing about my argument. I'm not arguing that they're not racist, I'm just saying that they'd be out protesting even if Obama was white, and they wouldn't be protesting if Michael Steele were president. Sure, they're racists and that's going to be evident in their protest of a Democratic black president's policies, but they're not protesting just because he's black. If Obama were white, they'd still be protesting although the bigotry would be less evident since they wouldn't be protesting a black person, but if a black repuke were president, they wouldn't be protesting at all.

I agree with you 100%! Where was this anger when Bushco was running our nation into the ground??? The Pee-baggers are nothing but angry people, (69% white men 65 and over), and everyone knows the reason why! When they say they are going to take their country back, what do you think they mean...

12. I disagree with the racism comments that are so common
Sure, some of the Baggers are racist, but most are just blinded-by-their-own-ideology partisans. There are groups on both and Left and the Right that are out of touch with reality because they simply refuse to listen and think.

15. By far the overwhelming
majority of those out of touch with reality are on the RIGHT.

There are no Teabagger protests against the SCOTUS Citizens United decision. There are no Teabagger protests against Wall Street. Why not?

Instead Teabaggers are protesting Obama claiming he is socialist while many of them are enrolled in Social Security and Medicare. And you suggest the 'right' and 'left' are equally out of touch. Are you joking?

Don't bring that bullshit Reich Wing talking point in here. There is no fucking comparison.

Tea Baggers = ASTRO TURF.

32. Sheesh, lighten up......
Can't you take a joke? I am SOOOOOOO not a Freeper. I wanted to get single payer, but I knew we would be betrayed. I want Wall Street to get cleaned up, but this Administration like so many before it brought Wall Street into the Cabinet with Geitner and others. I was calling for reductions in Military spending since the 70's.

However,if you think that we can make progress working together as Americans by censoring each other and refusing to even listen to each other.......

You may want to rethink your position.

Obviously there are some racists among them. However, I don't think that all of them are, nor are all of them unable to spell check their signs.

Personally, I am ok with people protesting the government from both the Left and the Right. I was livid when GWB herded protesters into the "Free Speech" cages during the inauguration. That was a criminal act and a sign of more to come.
