How would we know whether there was an effect (ie, reduced numbers of illegal immigrants in the US)

What would the early signs be? Higher produce prices? Lots of lawns going unmown? Restaurant food being served on dirty dishes?

What's your best guess?

2. One metric that is employed to judge whether an immigration
law is working is if the number and frequency of apprehensions and deportations declines. Of course, over the years, these have both increased, suggesting the laws are ineffective.

I predict the same will be shown when this law goes into action. Until it is struck down.

4. Look at Prince William County, VA. They chased all the legal Hispanic
businesses away by cracking down on illegal aliens. House prices dropped, many businesses closed, less tax base, school enrollment dropped 10%, county received less Federal $$$ due to lower enrollment, etc., etc. Houses that once sold for $500k there now sell for $219k. Vacant strip malls, shopping centers, etc. Freepers run the entire County Government.

7. Doesn't sound like Fairfax County which is right next to Prince William County
school enrollment increased and house prices only dropped about 10%. Most local businesses are doing fine.

8. more imported food
We can keep labor (poor people) from crossing borders, but capital (wealthy people) will move the jobs to other countries.

More imported food means lower quality, less safety, and depressed wages. Depressed wages in other countries will sooner or later mean depressed wages here, since capital (wealthy people) operates globally. Letting capital (wealthy people) operate globally without restriction, while restricting labor (poor people) by borders, we all lose.
