2. It says . . .
"Ancient Aliens"

Ancient relics and legendary tales from the Dogon, Hopi, Zuni and Han civilizations

provide evidence claiming extraterrestrials visited and interacted with

human beings and possibly altered the course of history on Earth.

4. This borrows from Eric von Däniken's "In Search of Ancient Astronauts" from 1973.
Edited on Tue Apr-27-10 08:34 PM by John1956PA
In fact, Erich von Däniken is featured prominently in "Ancient Aliens." I recall being impressed with "In Search of Ancient Astronauts" when it first aired, and I am glad the subject is being revisited - as is the earth, too?

which they are speculating could be examined to show our past evolution -- and

perhaps alien intervention?

6. Yes. There is new material, and the production holds the viewer's interest.
The technology used to place the grooves in the stones at Pumapunku (Puma Punka) can not be explained. Neither can the evenly spaced, perfectly drilled holes which appear in the grooves.

Edited on Wed Apr-28-10 07:31 AM by John1956PA
This is a very hard stone, and it would be difficult for even modern technology to mill it and to bore holes in it.

86. The stone is made of diorite. Therefore, stone tools would not be hard enough to shape it.
Although, depending upon the particular composition of the diorite which forms the stone, it may have been amenable to shaping by quartz tools.

"Take South America for example. Every year in South America thousands of people turn up missing. Nobody knows where they go. They just disappear. But if you think for a minute, realize something: there had to be a time when there was no people right? Well, where did all these people come from? I'll tell you where: the future. Where did all these people disappear to: the past. How did they get there? Flying saucers, which are really, yeah, you got it: time machines."

One of their primary "sources" is convicted embezzler and perjurer Eric Von Daniken.

The whole premise, that ancient humans were too dumb to tie their shoes until "aliens taught them," is 100% total bullshit. Nothing more, nothing less.

31. Yes, but that does not make it true
Look there is life out there, even intelligent life, but this theory has WAY TOO MANY HOLES.

So this is a new age religion, to be honest.

As I like to ask people who believe this... WHY...

And yes, there is this troublesome aspect of evolution. We are firmly set on this world and it's own history of life.

35. Yes they do, but it appears taht this bothers you
by the way I have used this theory extensively in Fiction I have authored. Ba'al, so the theory goes, was not human but an Alien, a Gray... if you will. And finally humans and Tal come into conflict, a war of extermination.

So yes I have mined it myself, extensively. But that does not mean that there is actual evidence out there that this is actually for real. Like you know in the real history books and archeological record or genetic record. If the TV does show it, don't mean is true... and the program is well done... but like other UFO programs it would not run in a REAL history channel.

Now you are free to ignore me, if this challenges this new age religion. By the way, this is a strange iteration of a real religion, called the Cargo Cult.

There are two versions of this show I've seen on History. By far the better of them, is the one with the experts that get like 2 % of the show to show the problems with the "theory". Lucky the theory is so laugh out loud funny and poorly thought out their 2 % of the show was all they needed.

His book is horrible on the other hand. One of the worst written piece of insanity ever put together. It has no flow, no actual theory or tangible evidence. Just a bunch of what if sentences that run over 100 pages. While totally ignoring the real evidence that is counter to every what if he makes. Yawn. This special however will get anyone giggling on the floor that also enjoys Monster Quest or UFO hunters for their pure insane entertainment value. Von Daniken never gives "alien astronaut" explanations for any of Europe's ancient structures or fanciful art.

Only Central and South American, and Africans were such big dummies in Von Daniken's view that they need alien help to be able to put one rock on top of another.

... then they were pretty lackluster aliens.

If you're going to attribute the development of ancient cultures on aliens, you have to at least pick a non-barbarian culture.

If aliens are responsible for stonehenge, then whoever built Giza, Chichen itza and Machu Pichu obviously kicked their asses and sent them home.

42. Despite the crap
Stargate was a pretty good movie and the SG-1 series was worthy.

OK, maybe not a cool as Wormhole X-Treme!

One with Dr Nick Rush. I've seen him in previous BBC shows.

Interesting, also irritating show.

46. Aliens and Ghost
You know what my favorite show on TV is...Ghost Hunters. It's a bunch of dudes sitting around in a so called haunted area and saying stuff like "what was that?" "Did you see that?" "Over there!" and it always just happens OFF CAMERA as if the so called ghost are camera shy. Then they have this audio tape they play at the "reveal" which is obivously someone whsipering stuff into a mic.

85. Watch the British one "Most Haunted" - it makes Ghost Hunters seem like Einstein
What I love is they are out there looking for ghosts and at the slightest noise they freak out, scream and run. Or they all stand around asking each other "Did you hear that? What was that?" If any ghost were trying to contact them they would be totally frustrated. YouTube has some out takes that are hilarious.

49. If you didn't want....
...the ridicule, snarkiness, and insults, why in the hell did you state your opinion on the subject with such a long diatribe requesting that everyone respond with their own opinion on this TEEVEE show?:sarcasm: Oh, wait, you didn't do any of that. Although I missed it on the first go-round, I hope to dvr it and watch it later. Thanks for the basic information that in no way invited opinion, argument, nor insult, although apparently, many cannot help themselves.

66. That was entertaining. No real new info though
I'm inclined towards Francis Crick's view about directed panspermia.

Here's the thing though. If you look at it like some alien race came here and somehow did some genetic experiments that resulted in the human race, you still have to wonder about the conservation of genes from other species.

Unless when they arrived, they came aboard a Noah's Ark sort of thing where they brought *most* of the advanced life forms with them.

Or, they made multiple trips with multiple purposes.

But that's just the "ancient astronaut" angle, which seems to have lots of support in ancient mythologies.

The most intriguing thing they mentioned was something I had put on my "think about this" list several years ago and then forgot about: the notion that all the "junk" DNA actually encodes some sort of "record" of the species, an appendix of sorts (not *that* kind of appendix).

The big problem though with that is that DNA is so prone to random mutation, and without some sort of selective pressure, that "appendix" or whatever it is would very soon be corrupted beyond all recognition. Unless there is selective pressure of a sort we don't yet recognize, which very well may be true.

... and most (if not all) of his ancient astronauts crap was motivated by his desire to belittle relatively advanced non-European cultures. Yes, Eric, there were smart "dark-skinned" people too who could built stuff!
