Poll question: Suppose marijuana is legalized
Suppose weed is legalized, and sold in packages similar to cigarettes, with health warnings
similar to those on cig packages.

What is the MAXIMUM degree of warning you would be comfortable with?

...from you. Do you think that will affect sales?

7. You could go the South Park route:
"This product is really, really bad and should not be used by anyone at any time. It will probably kill you. Really. So we don't recommend it's use at any time."

8. an honest warning
Edited on Tue Apr-27-10 09:49 PM by miscsoc
the cig warnings are honest at least insofar as they say smoking drastically increases the risk of cancer, which is true.

afaik marijuana doesn't pose any similarly lethal risks so in that sense the warnings should be "milder" but they should communicate to the consumer the risks that the current scientific consensus believes are associated w consumption

i don't think it can ever be wrong to give people full information about the substances they are considering consuming.

i'm interested in the logic behind the votes for stronger warnings than cigs - i was always under the impression that it was LESS dangerous than tobacco by some measure

10. I voted "stronger" because I don't think it matters one whit
Has anyone, ever, altered their decision to purchase a pack of cigarettes due to the warning label? They could include DVD copies of Reefer Madness on every package and it wouldn't change a bloody thing.

12. It'll have to say something like: The Surgeon General believes
that it's bad for you, that it causes mental illness and all sorts of other tragic illnesses, and it's a gateway drug, and as soon as we can prove it, we'll change the wording to "has determined."

15. Other.
Pot and cigarettes are nothing alike, you would need a 'disclaimer' that is somewhat different than cigs.

17. Recommendations would make more sense than warnings.
This substance appears to have anti-cancer effects in humans.

Consumption in large quantities is recommended.

Waking and baking is highly recommended.

18. Well..
the only thing 'similar' about a joint and a cigarette is that both are ingested by smoking. Milk is sold in packages similar to wine and both are ingested by drinking, should they have similar labels, due to the containers, or correct ones, suited to the contents?

20. Not a bad analogy.
Since nobody has ever actually found any danger in cannabis use.

Number of deaths caused by Cannabis use: 0 (* Does not include users killed by cops)

Can we deal with the elimination of the absurd prohibition first?

What could even provoke this question?
