TX lawmaker to introduce anti-immigration bill.
This is one ugly domino from Arizona that I don't think will fall,
but it's still damm ugly. However, both Bill White and Rick Perry
are saying that immigration law is the responsibility of the federal
government, and nobody seems to think that the bill will get anywhere.

1. Because if the nut jobs do get a similar law passed in Texas
the racist GOP knows that it will be the death-knell of their party in this state.

2. Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!
Latinos comprise a huge (or is it hugh?) voting bloc in Texas.

3. Many Latinos are legally here and would support a law enforcing immigration laws.

Their numbers are significant albeit you don't see them out protesting.

Sorry.

Supporting a AZ-like law would be a death wish for the Texas GOP.

9. One of my friends is a naturalized citizen, born in Mexico
she & her family came here legally. She doesn't like it that people come here "illegally," but she's thisclose to going to Arizona without any documents just so she can sue the shit out that state.

8. Oh yes, they do.
There are more Latinos in Texas now than there are Caucasians.

10. The Latino population in Texas is about 36%.
Texas was officially deemed a "majority-minority" state by the Census Bureau in 2005, meaning that the total number of all minorities are greater than non-minority white population. There are 3 other states with this status: California, Hawaii and New Mexico.

Texas will turn blue, sooner than later. :)

5. It wasn't in your OP so I was kind of wondering which party this Texas rep belonged to.
"Is it possible that a Democrat could propose such a law?" A silly question I knew.

After clicking on the link, the truth was revealed that he was, surprise, surprise, surprise, a republican. :)

14. Tomball is a city about 28 miles north of Houston.
The population is around 10,000. It is in the same county as Houston, which is Harris Co. From my experience, most small cities outside of Houston are very red.
