Arizona sheriff says he won’t enforce new immigration law
http://www.abc15.com/content/news/phoenixmetro/central/story/Arizona-sheriff-says-he-won-t-enforce-new/cwugVbnMA0efnNZlqLs9Yw.cspx

PHOENIX -- An Arizona sheriff is the latest person to speak out about the state's new immigration legislation, saying he does not plan to enforce the divisive law.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik calls Senate Bill 1070 a "stupid law" that will force officers to start profiling. He is one of the first local law enforcement officials to rebel against the law.

"We don't need to enforce it. It would be irresponsible in my opinion to put people in the Pima County Jail at the taxpayers expense when I can give them to the Border Patrol," Dupnik said.

The Sheriff admits he could get sued for failing to obey the law, but says that's a risk he's willing to take.

4. Wow..an Arizona Sherriff who see's where
this new law is going if enforced.

Something the "lawmakers" couldn't quite muster past their narrow tiny vision.

8. Pima County is home to Tucson, a Democratic city.
I hope that area becomes a trend-setter!

15. I lived in Tucson for 6.5 years.
Then my husband's job took us to the Phoenix area almost 10 years ago.
I love both cities... I just wish this area was more like Tucson.

17. Yeah, I lived in Phoenix after Tucson but
again..it was so long ago that Goldwater was alive and all I did was shop in his family's store.

It is weird how an area gets so bamboozled by con artists that they do themselves in ..or they just make so much money that all they care about are tax cuts so the lies don't matter.

9. Amazing considering Pima County is like 50% of the AZ border with MEX.

I'm happy to see that he is standing his ground on the profiling issue.

14. Absolutely.
Nogales, AZ does a huge business with Mexicans. When I shopped there I was definitely in the minority.

16. I've never been there but may be later this summer
if the "Stop me, I may be Mexican" tour gets going.

23. It's interesting.
Mexico is like a different world. I lived about 7 miles from the border and it was a hassle at times because I don't speak a lot of Spanish but I enjoyed the time I lived there.

I was the only white female I knew that went into Mexico by herself. I wasn't fearful and I never had any problems but I did get delayed in going across the border one day because there was a shooting on the Mexican side.

12. Yeah Pima County Sheriff Dupnik.
Frankly, if Pima County law enforcement tried to enforce this law it wouldn't have time for anything else. Pima County is crawling with Border Patrol and Immigration and it's their job to enforce immigration laws.
