New Jersey Man Flies Nazi Flag

A New Jersey flag collector has come under fire for a particular flag on display in his yard.

Mark Forsman says he has flags of all types, including the Israeli flag, a Ku Klux Klan flag, and others. But a neighbor called authorities to report that he was flying a Nazi flag.

"I collect flags, it's what I do, that's my hobby," he said.

There may be local laws against it, and flying such a flag may fall under hate crimes legislation, but he's certainly free to collect Nazi memorabilia. I know the few collectors I've spoken to over the years (those who were not Fourth Reich bimbos or Aryan Nation nimrods), serious collectors of war-related memorabilia, were reluctant to have even their name and hobby made public knowledge, and none would be so stupid as to actually exhibit such paraphernalia outside a collector's convention. But if Forsman chooses to exhibit his dumbassery to his neighbors, he'll have to bear the consequences. I just hope he doesn't appeal to the public for some perceived First Amendment protection for being such a douche.

Mark Forsman hoisted the swastika-laden red flag above his Carney's Point, N.J. property in commemoration of Adolf Hitler's birthday on April 20. But the self-described flag collector says it was not in celebration, its there just because it's part of the collection. "It's just, it's his birthday and the flag's up, that's all," he said. "It's not a big deal to me."

But the flag is a big deal to one anonymous tipster who called NBC Philadelphia. They say they're offended and called the flag inappropriate. They also claim police won't ask the man to remove the flag because it would violate his 1st Amendment rights.

"I don't hear them calling you guys next month when I fly the Mexican flag for Cinco de Mayo," Forsman said.

fwiw, we frequently get this. people call all the time and want us to do stuff that is either unconstitutional or against policy, law, etc.
