the one message I'd like to send Obama: "It's the weed, stupid"....
seriously, which is the bigger crime..

a guy smoking a plant?
which has been in use by our species for about 50,000 years or longer more likely. many medical properties, no-toxic, less addictive than alcohol or tobacco that kills people every single day.

or..

the active, ongoing opression of 20% of the american population with an illegal prohibition of the plant. rounding them up like dogs, and caging them.
destroying their familys and lives.

why do people treat this issue like it means so little?

11. Not at all. Cannabis could save the planet.
Read 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes' by the late Jack Herer.

The most useful plant known to man is still marginalized and it's advocates stereotyped as lazy hippies. All because of completely false propaganda started in 1937.

It's absurd! Hemp is a versatile and easily renewable resource that could replace so many non-renewable resources that it makes no sense whatsoever to continue the mindless prohibition.

The recreational and medicinal properties of the plant are quite impressive as well.

Sorry, but saving the planet from the petro-chemical predator corporations is not a trivial matter.

5. Yes. It is utterly ridiculous to outlaw a naturally occurring plant
and the subsequent smoking of it.

Stop jailing pot smokers. This issue alone is doing incredible damage to our society.

10. I have no idea why people are not furious over this.
The fact that marijuana is illegal means that every year, tens of thousands of Americans have their cars searched, their homes searched, and their backpacks searched.

They end up spending precious dollars keeping themselves out of the prison system, for defense attorneys.

If found guilty they can lose their homes and their cars and their bank accounts.

This money from seized properties goes to various police officials inside each state in the Union. They dole it out to various politicians in every region in the state.

In Marin County, California, $ 135 thousand bucks a year, called "discretionary funding" was handed over to each Supervisor to do whatever he or she wanted to do. The Supes would always point to what good causes they were supporting (a local theater, a senior center) but it was quite "hush hush" that in exchange for their "gifts," they then expected the manager of whatever project was supported to kick back some of the money come campaign time.

Meanwhile the big drug cartels clean up one family member and send them north into our nation, where the family member actually buys an entire bank. This is one reason that until the drugs laws are eliminated - our nation will never have transparency regarding the banks and the monies sitting inside the banks.

Our banking system is a laundering facility for the drug cartels. In Mexico, one third of the economy is from tourism, one third from money those working in Northern America send south to relatives, and one third from DRUGS! And much of that money is sent up here to be laundered.

14. why are they not furious?
excepting people over 73, everyone alive in america today has been exposed to anti-drug propaganda for their entire lives. relaxing rules, except those that govern rich people's activities, is not something anyone in america has ever experienced: it is SCARY, and you don't know what's going to happen. this country is risk-averse to the point of paralysis.

it will take congress to legalize it, and even among democrats there aren't enough politicians with balls big enough to roll those dice.

yet.

15. The hypocrisy of having marijuana illegal while alcohol and cigs are fine is mind blowing
We could end the drug wars AND use the taxes generated to invest in renewable energies, pay down the debt, pay teachers more, end gangs who need illegal drug money to survive, etc. It's a win win situation for everyone EXCEPT for big tobacco, the alcohol industry, the timber industry, the pharmaceutical industry, etc. THAT is why it's illegal - because our government always sides with these huge corporations over the rights of the people.

We are just going to have to keep putting pressure on them until they allow us to be free to smoke pot if we want - or not if we don't. It's a simple, logical concept if people will just see through the propaganda which is keeping it illegal. We aren't saying THEY have to smoke pot, we just want the right to be able to do so legally if, as adults, we choose to do so. We are either free, or we are not.

Smoking period isn't beneficial to anyone's health.

17. In enough cases to be significant, it is the criminal element that surrounds "the weed"
There's always a matter of storage and transport, and that's after a season of St & Fed documents, certification, wary cultivation and culling with thousands of pounds sitting round certified grower farming concerns curing. Medically registered cannabis consumers have been identified as persons that have 'opened the door' in which flows criminal elements involving theft, robbery not limited to cannabis; but money, resources, electronics (computers, business machines, scales, office and processing equipment, etc) and further/follow-up psychical harm or threat without submissive compliance

http://cbs13.com/local/Police.Medical.Marijuana.2.988081.html

http://calpotnews.com/medical-marijuana/operator-hurt-as-armed-robbers-hit-santa-rosa-dispensary

The partner of a friend is looking at very, very serious, serious longterm prison time when armed men with violent intent burst into their home one mellow evening impersonating federal agents with badges and logos, zip-tied them all up; including the children, and began pistol whipping the women bloody causing shrieks while they talked to other operatives down the hill on walkie talkies - these people showed up with a very deadly plan and they were prepared to see it through

With the children sobbing and praying for their lives - and as they started pistol whipping the women - his partner, a stage 3 diabetic with HIV/AIDS, went into shock and began to seizure

Zip-ties were snapped and a moment of great psychical pro-action ensued involving a high speed chase in which shots were fired by criminal elements over their shoulders out the back window like the wild fucking west. A downside to dealing with people that live on mountains can be that they know the corners very well

Ducking bullets, a bumper was tipped and the bad men rolled a brook, slapped a tree, and one of them died - very serious matters

Too many people have no idea whatsoever what it takes the put a gallon of milk in the refrigerator. Cannabis is another such product

Some will say in response cause you just have to know that they will so have a reply in hand, "Its the criminal element, stupid!"

Cause even the old hippies I know aren't hippy-dippy about MJ anymore
