Children's liquid cold, allergy medicine recalled (Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec & Benadryl)
Friday, April 30, 2010

(04-30) 20:05 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

More than 40 over-the-counter infant's and children's liquid medications are being recalled in the United States and 11 other countries because they don't meet quality standards.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued the recall for Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl after consulting with the Food and Drug Administration.

The company is recalling the products because some did not meet required quality standards, the company said in a statement Friday. Some of the products recalled may have a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified on the bottle. Others may contain particles, while still others may contain inactive ingredients that do not meet internal testing requirements.

The company is advising consumers to stop giving the products to their children as a precautionary measure. The recall was not undertaken because of any adverse effects, the company said.

The medicines were made and distributed in the United States, and exported to Canada, the Dominican Republic, Dubai, Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Kuwait.

1. Nice way to make and hold a good customer base there, sicken peoples' kids with something they think
is going to make them feel better.

2. I just took 4 bottles of meds out of our medicine cabinet.
Tylenol and Motrin. That will teach me to stock up at Costco! :)

I have some generic zyrtec, looks like that is ok to use. I guess tomorrow I will have to get some generic tylenol and motrin too.

4. Ok, this is making sense now. Great. Just great.
I bought my baby some Tylenol today for an ear infection (plus antiboitics, etc). Then I went to the WalGreens to get some Motrin (to rotate with the Tylenol because her fever wouldn't go down), but the cash register wouldn't let me buy the Motrin's. I had to go get the store brand. That one was fine. But I just bought the Tylenol today at Target and gave it to her at 4:10 pm.

18. I'm right there with you.
I have given my son Motrin and my daughter Tylenol this week. My kids take Zyrtec everyday, but luckily we have been using the generic brand.

Hope your baby is feeling better real soon.

7. To their credit
they did issue the recall/warning before a bunch of kids ended up dead, which is what companies ought to do.
It's fucking shameful that a company deserves praise for not covering up stuff until a bunch of people end up dead instead of just being the norm, but that's the world we're stuck with.

8. I agree, but shit, I've already given my kid the Tylenol. Today.
This shouldn't happen at all.

13. You know, I am just getting f*cking p*ssed
Why can't they just produce stuff that works and doesn't harm my child. How difficult is it???

My son is teething right now and Motrin is the only thing that makes it bearable for him.

Really...

14. Store brand was ok. Apparently it was just the Motrin brand.
I tried to buy some today and couldn't, but I was able to get the store brand. Of course Target allowed me to buy the Tylenol. Walgreens wouldn't allow me to buy Motrin's though. (long day, ear infection, antibiotics and tylenol at Target, then decided I needed Motrin for later, and I went to Walgreens).

15. Thanks. Maybe I should just switch to store brands.
He is almost a year old and I am glad that he didn't have an ear infection yet. Teething is bad enough.

Good luck with your babies :)

21. My baby's incisors are coming in. The back molars were the worst though.
No other teeth bothered her, but those molars were tough. I guess he is about that age for those molars. x(

20. For teething, we had a lot of luck with frozen carrots and frozen watermelon rinds.
The carrots were the best. The vertical fibers stay intact and just fray like a rope. Watermelon: just eat most of it and leave a little pink near the rind. My daughter loved it.
