Father says bully choked son

DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — Soon after a local man enrolled his 12-year-old son at SeDoMoCha Middle School, he said the boy became the victim of an older pupil's bullying, which started with name-calling and escalated to an assault at recess on April 15.

Having lived in California before moving back to his hometown in July, the man said his children had attended a school with nine different gangs and 13 different races but had never encountered any bullying. Aggression against his children had not even been a concern for him as he looked forward to returning home.

But as soon as school started, the abuse began and continued until his son was choked last month, the father said this week. When he learned that the bully had received only a two-day suspension and would return to his son’s classroom, he filed an assault charge and removed his son and his two other children from the SeDoMoCha complex. He said he took the other two children out of school because he feared for their safety.

For now, he and his wife are home-schooling the children, but they hope to convince SAD 68 directors that policies need to be changed to keep students safe.

1. Not just a bit of a problem... had to remove my son and now we're removing our daughter at the end
this school year. Similar story to what this guy has said, the bullying doesn't stop when you take them out however, text messages, emails, social networking boards, still continues there...

2. Our son was being bullied as well.
Our son was being bullied and the school didn't seem to care at all. We have been home schooling him this year. I am also a Martial Arts instructor and he is taking classes along with several other students.

When we send him back to school, it will be as a Black Belt.

3. So we see an extension of the tea bags in our schools
they have to learn this behavior at home, else why would they think it is ok to perform it in public. Their parents and elders preach hate, violence and we see where it leads. If anyone is considered different the parents let the kids harass them. Typical tea bag , or should I say again KKK, type behavior.

4. I grew up in western Mass ( a few miles from South Hadley)
I have never seen the act of mocking and hurting people with words taken to such a level. Even when I visit, I am startled at what people will say about one another. I am not sure what cultural developments resulted in this, but I have lived in many places and nowhere else was even close.
