Ocean currents map: It won't stay in the Gulf.

More complex map:

And just add a hurricane or storm to it.

1. These maps contradict each other
How can one know which is correct?

5. The second one showns many more
sub-currents. The first one pretty much outlines the general overall flow.

6. The second one does not show a cold flow down the eastern seabord
And it does not show other flows that are on the first map. I don't see how additional details would cause the loss of a flow pattern entirely.

21. No, it is what it sounds like. The jet streams are airborne.
There are plenty of ocean currents or "streams" and the Gulf Stream is one. The Earth has 4 main jet streams, two polar and two subtropical, and a few minor jet streams that form under different conditions. The ocean currents/streams are comparatively very stable and change over longer geologic time; significant climate change (re:which can alter oceanic salinity, which alters the strength of ocean currents thus their ability to transfer heat from topical regions to colder climates) and continental drift are what affect them. The closing of the Panama gap between Mexico and South America after the Cretaceous (re:end of the dinosaurs) ceased the current running between the Pacific and Atlantic, creating the more temperate global climate we've come to know. This also gave rise to the Gulf Stream.

13. The Gulf Coast and then the East Coast will be losing for many days to come.
The loop current and Gulfstream are projected to carry this to the east coast of the Florida peninsula and then up the Atlantic Seaboard. This is a gigantic cluster of a disaster.

11. One thing I know for sure
The gulf stream takes waters to the shore of Great Britian. We were taught that in school in the 1940's and it sure hasn't changed. I dont' know if teachers bother to tell kids about this Gulf Stream today or not.
