How about if we round up all the republicans who let the safety laws lapse

in all our industries and put them to work cleaning up the oil that will soon be killing the coast of the south eastern US?

When they have done that, we can make them food inspectors or industrial safety inspectors - get them some good government jobs, say for OSHA...should be enough to do for quite some time.

The GOP was in a big hurry to remove the safety and regulatory laws on all business an industry, wtarting uinder Bush I and continuing through Bush II, the Oil Company President...They seem to have got their wish now.

I sincerely hope people connect this just beginning disaster with the republicans and that they at least vote for some decent candidates for a change, but I am afraid the idiots will start some sort of god-hates- America explanation for this and blame it on the left/Obama/ etc...I don't hold much hope for common sense in our country now.

Let's set up a new law that goes into effect when a perpetrator reaches say, the million dollar mark. If a person is involved in a scheme that steals $1,000,000 from others the law would go into effect and that person would get an automatic life time prison sentence.

If a company like BP causes $1,000,000 in damage to the environment, then all of its leaders would be put in prison for life. It might have made them think twice before deciding to not use those relatively 'cheap' $500,000 acoustic switches, which could have prevented the massive oil spill.

This new law could be enacted in any case where the million dollar threshold was passed. Just think of all the scum we could take off the streets. All of the executives at Enron, Worldcom and all the other corrupt businesses would become inmates in prison. So would corrupt politicians who inserted loopholes into laws that allowed corporations to screw people. Hell, it could even include all of the imbeciles who supported Bush going to war against a non-existent enemy. We need bigger prisons!!!

What do you think? Conservatives say they love personal responsibility, so even they should support such a law. Oh yeah, conservatives only want to throw the book at the little guy. They never seem to want to hold the rich accountable for anything they do...

sentences for theft are to short,I'm not sure about setting a monetary threshold for establishing sentences.

The more you steal, the less your sentence is. I wrote an article almost ten years ago entitled, "If you Steal, steal BIG!". It's still floating in cyberspace if you want to read it.

There are two sets of laws. One for the middle class and poor, and the other for the rich. The poorer you are the more time you serve. The richer you are there is a good chance you'll never even be charged.

It would be a learning experience on how marine ecosystems work.

This is an example of lax regulations.
