We have a major catastrophe happening in middle Tennessee.
The Cumberland river is still rising from two days of rain. Up to 20 inches have fallen in some places. There will probably be a few billion dollars of damage and many people have lost their homes. 8 people have lost their lives and major interstates are closed coming into and going out of Nashville. My work place has closed tomorrow because the river may flood it.

I realize there is an oil spill in the Gulf and a bomb in NY but we need you to keep us in your thoughts and even pray for those that have lost there homes and lives.

8. They are getting more rain right now. The storm has moved to
the south. The rivers are cresting tonight and getting even higher tomorrow. We were just told to conserve water. Our pumping station is under water.

I certainly can empathize since I went through Katrina and know first hand the horrors you and your community are facing. Please stay strong and keep your neighbors close because together you will find strength and hopefully help from outside will be plentiful to overcome this.

be close to the same.

Edited on Sun May-02-10 10:39 PM by AuntPatsy
to be more of a curse than a blessing...to constantly be aware of so many horrors almost twenty four seven cannot be good for the humans simple minded population to remain mentally stable...it is no wonder I have no doubt that more than likely ninety percent of the human race is on or addicted to some form of medical prescription drugs....
..
It is so heartbreaking to constantly be aware of so many horrors occurring to other people world wide and being unable to help

It seems that almost every moment of every day there is someone somewhere having to face a tragedy that leaves one a victim of something that they simply do not have the ability to run away from and or survive..

What got me thinking along those longs was your words....'can't compare".....

Perhaps that is our problem today...comparing our tragedies far too often instead of realizing that in reality, there is no comparison, there should not be...all of it, what is going on with your area, the gulf, world wide, the human population, the environment, our un-human inhabitants...all of it all is tragic, and deservedly so...

My thoughts are with all those in such times as they are needed...I just honestly..I wish I could offer so much more..so many victims...such is life I guess..I just wish sometimes I was unaware that at every moment of every day someone, somewhere is not only needing my prayers but my time and aid as well and I wish I had more to give than just my thoughts and or prayers as the case may be...I am not even sure I believe in prayer though it was indoctrinated into me so early on....

the saddest realization of all is that in so many cases...a tragedy, a death, a horror never before experienced by some could have been avoided...I am not sure which is sadder, the horror that could have been foreseen and perhaps averted or the one no one could have ever predicted and therefore was forced to endure...

sorry, hang in there, rambling...it is all just so sad...

I'm also PERSONALLY convinced that the snow events of the previous winter are probably enviromentally and Co2 related too.

I was talking to my brother yesterday and neither one of us are ones to say "God's warning signs" about stuff, but this can make you wonder. Between the events in the Gulf, Nashville, and this past winter's problems maybe the Deity is saying "Enough is enough".

22. We Are Thinking About You...
I live in Lexington, KY and we have had horrid rain for the last two days with localized flooding and we are still have nothing like what you have in TN. I believe some parts of Southern KY are being hit almost as bad as TN.

I watched video from TN on the Weather Channel today and it appears that your local fire/rescues teams in the various communities were doing a great job but I imagine they are overwhelmed.

Good luck to you and your neighbors.

31. have you all seen the picture of the car mountain that was on the weather
Edited on Mon May-03-10 10:00 AM by ensho

CH.? the flood had pushed all these cars into a huge mountain. amazing. it will take a large, industrial crane to begin to un mountain the cars. these were not junk yard cars.

this flooding is a huge disaster. the cost will be out of sight.

and the toxic pollution horrendous.

the only media giving it much time is the weather station.

the other media gave the car bomb that didn't go off constant time. but not much about the awful, flooding.

what media covers is upside down and sideways. disgusting.

props to the weather station.

I have a friend who was nearly stranded in Nashville yesterday, trying to drive through toward Memphis. He ended up taking a highway going north. His ultimate goal is further west, so he had to reroute into St. Louis before calling it a night and traveling on through today.

He said it was the worst flooding he's ever seen.

We were lucky to only have small water (not river) flooding in the basement.

However, been trying to get in touch with other relatives in one of the hardest hit areas in Davidson County. They are fine and have no water in their condo, but the power and phone lines are out. It may be a couple or three days before they get full service restored, but the waters along the Harpeth River are now receding.

Heard from a beautician who also lives in that area saying that her street was flooded and had to evacuate her home, go to the Opryland hotel, evacuated again and is now staying at her daughter's house.

My fam and I used to live in that neighborhood before we moved to a high ground location. Had we still lived there, we might have lost everything.

It is a very sad situation (many residents do not have flood insurance).

Thanks for the replies. Prayers to you and all that are/were affected. :groughug:
