Obama Administration Postpones Offshore Oil Industry Safety Awards Luncheon Scheduled for May 3rd
- Damn it! And I was planning to attend. BBI -

2010 Offshore Industry Safety Awards Postponed

The Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) announced today that the 2010 Annual Industry SAFE Awards Luncheon scheduled for May 3, 2010 at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas has been postponed.

The ongoing situation with the Transocean Deepwater Horizon drilling accident has caused the MMS to dedicate considerable resources to the successful resolution of this event, which will conflict with holding this ceremony next week.

The MMS will announce how the agency will proceed with the 2010 SAFE Award program during the next several weeks. The MMS apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks the organizers of the OTC for their understanding of our current situation.

2009 MMS Offshore Oil Leadership Award Winners

Darryl Luoma, BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc., for outstanding leadership in the innovative and visionary approach to developing the use of extended-reach drilling technology for the Liberty Development Project.

Harlan King (not pictured); Virgil Russell, BP America, Inc.; and Al Gonsoulin, Petroleum Helicopter, Inc., for their outstanding dedication and leadership in promoting improved medical care and evacuation capabilities for offshore facilities.

1. They say it is due to the resources being used in the clean-up!

It couldn't be the overwhelming embarrassment and shame. Safety awards to BP. Too much!
