Please discuss this and help me figure it out.

Quote from Facebook:

"Sorry. I think it is very reasonable to require that you be a US citizen or a documented guest to live and work here. Defending one's borders against all enemies foreign and domestic. Vow I took when in the USMC service. Illegal immigration is NOT strengthening our country. Those that employ and facilitate illegals FROM ANY COUNTRY are not helping our economy. How many workers are paid cash and not taxed??"

(Edited to add: I'll probably get fiercely slammed for this, but I'm kind of expecting that...)

1. I'd rather have more illegal immigrants, less republicans.
That's my opinion.

3. Economic refugees created by US policy are not our enemies.
No Mexican nationals flew planes into the Twin Towers.

4. seems pretty straight forward
although people who are paid cash do pay sales tax when they spend the money (but so do the rest of us)

Sorry but I agree. I think it is very reasonable to require that you be in this nation legally to live and work here.

5. A really effective way to reduce undocumented workers...
would be to rigorously inspect employers, and fine the shit out of them if they are found to be knowingly employing illegals.

But you see, that would threaten our corporate overlords, so instead we'll continue to do it the hard way.

6. I recommend you check out
9500 Liberty at youtubes. I live here in Arizona and have for 3 years, I have had a problem with Arpaio's thugs because I let his opponent guest host my show to talk about immigration issues and Arpaio was offended because Saban showed how Arpaio used profiling and how it hurt taking care of the real problems.

9500 Liberty is about a law very much like the one here in Arizona and had to be rewritten due to the harm it did. I have the guy who spearheaded the bill in Prince William County Virginia coming on my show Saturday, but in a pre-show interview I talked to him and he actually admitted the law had to be readdressed because it violated citizens' rights that shouldn't have been.

7. First, cut off the head.
JAIL anyone who hires illegal workers. In addition to jail, and by jail I do not mean 'Club Fed'- a real friggen jail, plus extremely high monetary fines. HIGH!!! 5 times the amount of profit they made off these men and women.

Last night I heard Congressman Guitteriz (sp?) lay out a specific plan which to legalize those here criminal background checks, fines, work, school, learn English and several other points. When I find a moment I'm going to google further information about this.

Something has to be done so that immigrants are not being used as scape goats and slaves.

8. I'd file that tax argument under "bigger fish to fry."
Considering US corporations seem to have a talent for avoiding taxes in the billions, it would take quite a flood indeed of laborers not paying taxes before I worried about it (e.g., billions).

9. You make some valid points . This issue is one sticky wicket.
The longer it marinates in the public the more to the
right things will become. It brings out such emotions
on both sides of the issue.

We are going to have to find a way to get a hold on
who belongs here and who does not. Biometric SS Card.
This will help to stop Businesses from hiring Illegals.
What is the attraction??? Mostly coming here to get
work. If Businesses cannot hire illegals they "truck
across the dessert" will slow to a halt.

11. here you go
1) His oath was to opppose enemies of the constitution both foreign and domestic.

The fact that he doesn't know the language is suspicious but in any case this law is unconstituional.

You are not required to give evidence against yourself. Requiring people to prove that they are legally here is in fact requiring them to provide evidence against themselves. ICE agents cannot compel someone to answer them and if someone does not respond to their questions then they cannot have probably cause to arrest them. This law turns it around and gives local governments the right to compel people to provide information against their will. In fact a legal resident of the US can go to jail for 6 months simply for not carrying their papers on their person.

2) It is cynical and un American.

When Phoenix was the fastest growing city in the US they welcomed cheap undocumented labor and now that they are having time they want to throw out all of the labor that helped them. How about they tear down every building and house that was built with illegal labor to show us how sincere they are. America is not simply a nation of laws but also a nation of fairness.

3) It will harm American national security.

Without this labor source the US agriculture system would collapse. Some machine friendly crops like corn and wheat would survive but a large portion of our food would now be produced in Mexico. When that happens we will be as dependent on Mexico for our food as we are the middle east for our oil. An exceptionally stupid idea.

4) It will help crime and cost lives both civilian and police officers.

In New York City it is against the law for police officers to give information on a persons legal status to federal officers. Where does crime primarily exist? In neighborhoods that are poorer and have high numbers of undocumented workers. In those neighborhoods a family man who may be married to an American citizen and have American children might very well witness a crime, say someone parking a SUV in Times Square for example. If that person is likely to be thrown out of the country once the police are involved why would they call the police. They won't.

Take another example. The police are called to enter an apartment building on a domestic disturbance call on the third floor. A good guy (undocumented) sees the police coming and knows that their is a brother of a resident visiting in the second floor. While he wouldn't normally get involved he knows that this brother is a person high up in the drug cartel and wants to warn the police so that they don't get shot in the back when this guy gets spooked. In AZ this guy will not identify with the police but go and hide under the bed. In New York this guy will go out and warn the police ahead of time.

And here is the final blow. They know that it is unconstitutional. The reason that they wrote such a terrible bill is not because they are stupid it is because they could vote for a bill that would be quickly thrown out. That way they don't have to worry about a right wing primary opponent but don't have to worry about the consequences of a bad bill. It is cynical politics at its worse. If this guy is happy being a pawn in an unconstitutional con job then so be it.

There is a reasonable way to solve the problem

1) Increase border security

2) Normalize status for undocumented workers who are here and have demonstrated that they contribute to the country and are law abiding.

3) Establish a workable guest worker job that will allow us to bring in workers under healthy safe and honorable conditions for jobs that Americans no longer will do. In my teens I picked fruit. I loved it and made a lot of money doing it but my kids and your kids aren't going to do it and I am not going to do it now.

Finally these extreme rightwing ubher patriotic memes are nothing more than political masturbation they are intended to give frustrated uninformed citizens momentary relief but not really do anything.

Hope that helps.

12. I think it is reasonable to expect people to live and work here legally
Otherwise it is too easy for employers to exploit their labor. This not only is bad for the immigrant, but it is bad for our economy and weakens the labor force here. It depresses wages and makes for a lower standard of living for all U.S. citizens. They need to stay in their own countries and work for better labor laws and economic growth in their own neck of the world. I know we are a shining beacon for the world, but we can't take care of our own legal citizens if the rest of the world flocks here. As US citizens we need to make our government accountable when they support oppressive regimes.

citizens who work for cash? I mean, that particular argument is so bogus that it's not worth paying any attention to.
