It is not enough to just 'grow your own'
Yesterday a damning government report came out stating that the environment/chemicals are the cause of many cancers and that the Government needs to address this.

How they can even consider adding to the current toxic environment is beyond my logic capabilities.

I lived right next to the Strawberry fields in Cali. Strawberries are already grown with methyl bromide. Plastic is put over the soil and taped down, then injected with extremely toxic smelly crap. The tape comes up and that crap goes right into the atmosphere. The farmers are particularly uncaring about close neighbors. Being pregnant and having small children, I asked them to at least warn us when they were going to use methyl bromide but they could not be bothered. I feel horrible for the (illegal-they have to be illegal so they can force them to work outside of normal safety standards) mexican workers that are forced to work with the stuff daily.

Until and Unless we start holding these Corporations, and our government that enables them, accountable...we are all going to die horrible deaths. They will not stop doing whatever it takes to make as much money as possible, damn the consequences.

Grow your own! Change your lightbulbs! They want us little people to think we can make a difference. When corporations are polluting like this, when one factory puts out more CO2 than one million people, there is nothing we can do to stop the decimation to our planet. We must shut down the real problem at the source.

4. I grew up with strawberry fields all around...
And in the mid-sixties, I often picked from fields that had already been harvested. My grandfather's heavy equipment repair shop was across Lomita Blvd. from one of the biggest local fields, and the owner had Grandpa work on his equipment. He'd let Grampa know when they were finished with the field for the season, and all ten of us grandkids would swarm over the field! It was awesome... especially during a full moon.

I bought local So Cal strawberries the past two weekends, and I have to say, they were the best early strawberries I've had since I was a kid. That's why I went back the second weekend... and will no doubt go again tomorrow!

No sugar needed... they were sweet as can be!

18. We have a lot of locally grown and organic strawberries
available here. Also we usually have a good crop of wild strawberries on our own land, so I think we are still sampling strawberries as they are supposed to taste (as well as my memory serves from the 50s and 60s.)

2. I gave up on tomatos as well - no flavor
I long for the delicious hothouse Monsanto-free tomatoes of my youth! mmm.... an experience that I hope to recreate one day by growing my own.

3. Without specifically causing people to die.
Edited on Fri May-07-10 12:42 PM by RandomThoughts
What there has been for decades is a death policy.

Literally if an arguement comes up that some people might die, for many years that arguement was not considered bad, because there was an undercurrent of lowering population in many peoples minds.

So if some situation is predicted to happen, like some effect on peoples health, the question would be could the people doing it hide. If they could, then the death did not bother them, because it is in line with their desire for many people to die to lower population.

Ideas of using economic conditions to get people to agree to sterializations, and items like that are also in that same vein, as is trying to keep people they think are 'better' together to fascilitate more people like them.

Much of the policies of the past decades have had a strain of eugenics in them by not caring, it is a natural side effect of wanting it all, since anyone else that lives takes some of what you could have. So always wanting more includes people in other groups going away.

The huge problem with that is it does not stop, but just keeps going till only one person is left, since after getting rid of some group, the person then sees people in his group the same way, and then even his closest friends, because that person's thought wants it all.

It is another reason why I think love your enemy is important, and bringing people into your life, not trying to shrink your empathy circles. And also why I do not believe in violence and just play songs from people I think sing and write good music.

But anyway, you can see the undercurrent of death in many things. And desire for population reduction is a side effect of wanting more, and not caring for the planet, since with moderation, the planet can sustain 40 to 80 billion people or even more.

But the point is there is a flow of thought. First with wanting more, then with getting from others, then with getting rid or others, then with getting rid of anyone else.

Part of why 'want' can create problems if that want also hurts other people and does not also help bring them up.

I think you can see the undercurrent of life also.

Roling Stones
You can't always get what you want.

I saw her today at a reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
And if you try sometime you find
You get what you need

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need

Oh yeah, hey hey hey, oh...

And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
Sing it to me now...

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need
Oh baby, yeah, yeah!

I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him

You can't always get what you want, no!
You can't always get what you want (tell ya baby)
You can't always get what you want (no)
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
Oh yes! Woo!

You get what you need--yeah, oh baby!
Oh yeah!

I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

You can't always get what you want (no, no baby)
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need, ah yes...

On a side note, what some call satire, the song "Holding Out For a Hero", is from the movie, Footloose.

6. Much of the policies of the past decades have had a strain of eugenics
how can we be sure this is unintentional?

The more I see the policies of the elite...there is no doubt they want us all to die, meanwhile they eat their organic grass fed beef and probably avoid aspartame and high fructose corn syrup. But we all breathe the same air....

A few days ago scientists discovered that the bees were dying from poison caused by heating high fructose corn syrup. That crap is in 80% of our food supply. I'm sure they are looking into this in order to protect humans....right....right??

It was just discovered that BPA is toxic to humans. What does Canada do when they discover this? They banned it from their products of course. What does the US do? Issue a statement saying it is perfectly safe, no one has proven anything.

Monsanto has spliced e-coli into their seeds that they have forced upon so many farmers, now our vegetables are turning up with...e-coli. Maybe it is from the sewage they water the crops with, but I want them to figure out where this crap food is coming from. How is it happening. I am sure they are on the case right? Today, another recall of lettuce....

What happened to our consumer protections? What happened to environmental protections? What are we going to do to reclaim them?

7. I was planning to start a garden
Got all my seeds ready... And then I learned that our soil is highly contaminated by copper, lead, and arsenic thanks to the Arasco copper smelter in Tacoma.

Sooo. Yeah. if I want tomatoes, I get to go buy dirt.

8. That sucks! At least you figured it out beforehand...
Geez that really sucks. You can make a raised bed, line the bottom of it, then fill it with good soil. Farms are always giving away their manure for free. Have any alders anywhere near by, they create their own nitrogen and add back to the soil so it is awesome. We use to live in Cali where the dump had a compost exchange, you drop off your compostables, they give you some compost from the year before. Craigslist? Good luck- but don't give up!

10. It's pretty easy to grow tomatoes in containers, honestly...it does suck to have
to buy dirt and containers but that new miracle gro stuff that has moisture control qualities seems like pretty good stuff.

It's really satisfying and fun to have your own tomatoes....really I recommend it if only to make the spirit happy. :)

12. And beware packaged dirt. It has been known
to contain toxic minerals. I'm really sorry about your garden, but not really sure what safe options to suggest.

11. Disposal by burning of rocket fuel has added
rocket fuel to everything from plant to mammal. It shows up in vegetables and breast milk.

And Monsanto's gm corn has destroyed probably all non gm corn via cross polination.

Contamination runs rampant.

16. Who is going to stop them?
Right now, next to the strawberries, they are growing heather to sell to Japan, using methyl bromide and all the same toxic crap. If we stop buying strawberries, they will grow more heather to make their profit off of Japan. The whole process needs to be shut down.

How dare they tell us to change our light bulbs, or drive less to save the planet!!
