Will the right wing fight this hard forever against the Democrats? Or...
if we get lucky and have a Democratic President and Congress for, say, the next decade or so, will they eventually pipe down and hopefully given the age of most of the FOX news viewers and teabaggers, die off?

Is it going to be this bad forever? I keep thinking, the younger generations are supposed to be more liberal - at least on social issues if not always on fiscal ones - won't there hopefully be some turning point in ten or twenty years when the McCarthyites die off and the more progressive generations start to vote more?

Or should I abandon all hope?

1. Not to send the thread spiraling away in another direction, but did you ever get that dinner
...with that neighbor? ;-)

As for demographics, some of it might depend on what shape the world is in: People are certainly easier to demagogue when they're terrified, panicked, etc...

...and once Americans realize how profoundly they've been lied to, and for how long, well... who knows what the fallout will be?

Then again, larger realities are coming down the pipe that the RW/Fox/MSM won't be able to "spin" either...

2. If they lose seats in the mid-terms they would change. Doesn't
look like that is going to happen though.

3. 66% of 18-29 year olds voted for Obama
that's anyone born from about 1978-1990 which would be most of the early Millenials but a few very late Gen Xers. Looking at how the 18-29 youth vote has voted in the past I was surprised that in 1976, Carter only won 51% of the 18-29 youth vote, which at that time was all boomers. I guess the boomers weren't as liberal as people thought they were, but that's a different discussion.

16. With this simple message...

1. America has been highjacked by special interests, corporations having "free speech" rights, etc.

2. We can take America back, simply by applying the Constitution, without bloodshed or great human suffering.

3. Our candidates will take an Oath that a) we'll take no money from special interests and b) we'll pass term limit and anti-corruption legislation to hold future elected officials accountable.

6. Over time we Dems command about 1/3 support and Reps almost 1/3. The party that can attract Ind
voters will control our government.

On the other hand, coporatists finance candidates in both parties so they can tout bipartisan support when their president signs bills that reduce personal income taxes, estate taxes, corporate taxes, limit liability of corporations, pay off business losses, etc. that move us inexorably toward a corporate state.

7. They are going to have to or else be the minority party
The more radical the Republicans are, the more it is going to turn off the independents.

15. IMO Dems & Reps are both minority parties. Corporatist party is majority in terms of dollars voted.

8. Don't see DEMS having the WH or Congress
for the next decade. I think the same about the repukes. So, I say, yes, the repukes will fight this hard for the time being. Nothing I see going on makes me believe that this political division will end anytime soon.

11. I just feel like they are dancing right on the edge of sedition, and I wonder how long they can
dance on that edge without actually going over into armed insurrection or else back off into something more sane....

12. Or will the Democrats just cave to the RW?
Don't want it to happen; but it is a real possibility -- i.e., assuming current practices continue.

14. These pinhead republicans are not as bad as some have been in the past - the
history of their party is based on lies, hatred, racism, bigotry and paranoia...this is what they call politics - this is how they do it.
When they are in power, they are even more insufferable...Look up some of Newt's old clips from when he actually was important-he was a real pig when in power, even more obnoxious than he is now.

They just can't seem to help themselves-this is who they are in fact.

As "Give 'em Hell, Harry" Truman said,"I DON'T give them hell - I tell the truth about them and they THINK it's hell."

Harry was right about again.

17. no
The Democratic party is being transformed into becoming the dominant conservative party in the country (anti-Labor, pro-corporate, supply-side, privatization). If that effort succeeds, then it will be the right wing and not under attack from the right wing. If that fails, then it is likely that the conservatives within the party will leave, making the party much stronger and no longer vulnerable to the type of attacks happening now. In either case, the tea party and Limbaugh stuff will not be around much longer.

18. They're not going anywhere
It distinctly possible they may modify their stances on some issues, if it appears that the American people are solidly against such positions. But they'll still be there disagreeing on many things.
