Idiot senator in Kansas wants to ban nudity at state run gambling facilities
<skip>

The bill is also designed to enable developers to build a casino in SE Kansas.

One funny exchange occured when Sen. Mary Pilcher Cook, a Shawnee Republican, offered an amendment to ban nudity at all state run gambling facilities.

"I don’t know if this could take place but I want to be proactive, because this is a state-owned property and we have to protect our citizens," she said.

Pilcher Cook likely meant casinos, but that's not how some Senators took it.

"It takes a skillfull seamstress to get the little skirts and shorts to fit the dogs and horses," said Sen. Pete Brungardt, a Salina Republican. "But I’m sure in the state of Kansas, the skills could be found."

1. So, it will be all right if I lose just my shirt?
But not the rest of my clothing?

Guess you heard about the infamous SB1070 but they also

• considered increasing the wait time for a divorce decree to 6 months to give the parties time to work it out (failed

• allowed certain types of fireworks that the fire departments wanted kept illegal due to the risk of fires especially in the summer (passed - who cares what the FD says? What do they know about fire prevention?)

• changed the allowed provisions in teacher contracts making them worthless -- the only thing they do is prevent the teacher from quitting (passed - who cares about teachers anyway?)

• allowed concealed carry without permits (it is the wild west, ya know)

• Senate Bill 1307, which bans human-animal hybrids. Opponents ridiculed its attempt to legislate actions that they say have no foundation in reality, with Democrats cracking jokes about minotaurs and mermaids. (It won narrow approval in both chambers of the Legislature.)

• extended the hours of liquor sales on Sundays. WooHoo! We can buy beer on the way to church now. (Passed and signed by Brewer)

There were a slew of draconian budget cuts as well. The R's had no trouble cutting health care for kids and using the money they "saved" to give tax cuts to businesses. They ended up restoring some of the kids care and nixed the business tax cuts for now. Rumor is that they plan to divert the funds raised if the 1% sales tax increase prop. passes from education to these business tax cuts. The Arizona Legislature hates education almost as much as it hates brown people.

8. Again, absurd morality issues and Republican economic hypocrisy trump everything else
Pilcher Cook's amendment ultimately failed and the overall bill subjected to her failed amendment also failed.

Interestingly, the main bill would have cut tax rates, it would have likely generated sorely needed revenue for the state coffers and it would have been an economic boon to many small businesses and rural areas in the state. You have thought the Republican state senators would have been rushing to vote for this bill and take credit for realizing their conservative and business friendly credentials. Instead, 18 of their 31 members voted against it and the measure failed. Their stupidity and hypocrisy simply burns.

But let's remember we beat them on the state school board and we can beat them in other races as well.

12. Smoking, nudity, next will be drinking and gambling banned. Sadly people love to make choices for
other people, even more sad is how many back them up on it.
