The complete absurdity just hit me.
I can vividly remember the demands for less reliance on oil during the Carter administration. I remember telling myself that in 15 years or so, we will come up with an alternative fuel.

Now, there is an uncontrollable gusher of oil in the Gulf.

And we are asking people to send human hair to try to fix it.

WE ARE SENDING HUMAN HAIR TO TRY TO FIX IT.

1. And fur. Don't forget fur!
Talk to your groomer and your vet!

(I agree, BTW -- this is just surreal)

2. The hair isn't to fix the gusher, it is to be used to clean up
the unending mess caused by the gusher. There isn't enough hair or fur available to do any good if they don't turn the damn thing off.

:(

5. Yes merh...
I guess what is blowing me away is that 30 years ago, I would not have even expected that rig to be there today, and now we have to resort to primitive means to clean up the hell we made. :-(

16. I remember how we promised we would be more mindful of
the environment.

Ecology was the in thing then.

4. I remember Carter giving a speech in a sweater.
I remember in 1977 going to a house on a school trip that was entirely solar powered.

I remember the VW Rabbit getting about 50 miles to the gallon.

Trust me, the absurdity hit me right around 1983. x(

19. I can see now that that was the plan all along
I didn't see it at first with nafta, cafta and going into china what the ulterior motives were but I do now. It was never to build up the Chinese to our level but to tear us down to their level. There should be a ceo hanging from every tree from coast to coast. borrowing from a fellow okie, Will Rogers.

10. Do you remember that Ronald Reagan took the solar panels OFF the White House?
Then he eliminated the tax credits for solar conversion and gutted the research budget.

from the whitehouse. I almost bought some from him myself but didn't because I had my hands full with my remodel job.

during the Bush I/Reagan years. As you might expect, it was a pretty good likeness of a downward staircase.
