Call Congress, Demand Hearings: Superfund environmental clean-up stagnates under Bush
Edited on Sat May-05-07 05:25 PM by ProgressiveAmPatriot
1 in 3 Americans lives within 10 miles of one of these sites. These sites pose a threat to public health. The Center For Public Integrity has found that clean up of Superfund sites is roughly half what it was under the Clinton administration. Around 80 percent of Superfund sites have not been fully cleaned up. Call and email Congress, demand that they hold hearings and pass legislation which corrects this problem.

Here is a piece done by CNN which summarizes the findings: http://www.cnn.com/video/player/player.html?url=/video/us/2007/04/28/sylvester.superfund.cnn

Here is a link to the Center For Public Integrity Superfund page: http://www.publicintegrity.org/Superfund/

This article does an excellent job of summarizing the findings and how the administration is responsible for the problem: http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/4/30/165646/762/?source=daily

Congress needs to investigate how this happened and pass new legislation to make corporations pay more to clean up these sites now, rather than never!

You can find phone numbers and email addresses your your members of Congress at http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/

Please also contact the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (chaired by Boxer) at: http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=ContactUs.ContactForm

and let MoveOn know that you want them to address this issue at http://pol.moveon.org/feedback/fb/form.html?tp=suggest
