To my Mom...

I miss your humor, your generous genuine laugh. I miss your wit, your intelligence and your bottomless knowledge of history. I miss you soothing my skinned knee as a kid and your gentle words when my heart was broken as an adult.

You are here, but you are not. I see in your eyes the blankness of being unable to recognize who I am. Asking me if I am somehow related to you.

I want to tell you that I love you and for you to respond in kind, but I know you won't. Who says, "I love you" to a total stranger as you now perceive me.

For all the hardships, heartaches, dramas and tragedies in your life, they are now gone. That is the one blessing of all this. You have no grief, no worry, no sadness and no pain.

You live in the moment and forget it the next.

You once confided in me, "Please don't forget me". Oh the ironies.

Mom, it is impossible for me to forget you.

I love you, Mom. Happy Mothers Day.
