Seattle cop apologizes for screaming racist threat at innocent man he’d kicked in face
In the early hours of April 17, Seattle's 15-year veteran police detective Shandy Cobane nabbed the wrong man while responding to a robbery. Less than a month later, he was in tears before the press and his community, pleading for forgiveness.

What happened that fateful night was brought to the world thanks to the presence of an amateur videographer, who captured Cobane kicking an innocent man in the face as he lay face down on the concrete.

The robbery suspect was reportedly Hispanic. Facing their Hispanic male suspect who lay compliant on the ground, Cobane screamed: "I'm going to beat the fucking Mexican piss out of you homey. You feel me?"

Apparently reacting to the man wiping his eye, the officer kicked his face and dragged his boot across the man's arm. Seconds later, a female officer on the scene stomped on his leg.

Once freed, officers appeared to acknowledge the man's injuries and one advises him to lean against a car to ensure he could remain on his feet. "I want you to relax your weight on the car, okay?" one said. "Put your hands back so you don't fall down."

After police realized their suspect had committed no wrongs and moved away, the videographer got up close with his subject.

"So they kicked you in the head, man?" he asked the victim.

"Yeah, they did," he said, appearing mildly dazed. Asked why, the man replied with a pained smirk: "I don't know ... They just knocked me down and kicked me in the head."

"I know my words cut deep and were very hurtful. ... I am truly, truly sorry," Cobane told reporters on Sunday, according to The Seattle Times.

1. Are the cops real sure they want surveillance cameras everywhere?
Big Brother can watch everyone.

15. Hmm. They had cameras all around the Pentagon on that infamous day.
But the feebs got there first and stole all the tapes. I spect they're always confident of getting there first, camera-wise.

4. Law enforcement in the Seattle area needs a new press agent.
So many racial incidents have happened over the past five years in that area. I am sure it is not any more prominent there than other places throughout the country, but Seattle always seems to make national headlines.

5. Has the officer been arrested and charged with assault yet? And if not, why not?

That would be a lot more meaningful than any apology.

6. Oh, well, he's sorry now about his hurtful words
Next time he'll just wallop the citizen and save the wise-cracks for the station house among people who will understand him ever so much better.

9. The Ones Who Stood Around and Watched Should be Charged
too.

Some people just don't have the temperament to be a cop. This guy is one of them. He has no business on the street and his whining apology was pathetic. He said, "I accept full responsibilty..." He did it, why wouldn't he? The person (who wasn't guilty of anything) was lying on the ground, complying with the orders of officers. Something has to change here and I think citizen outrage might make it so.
Was the person who videoed the cop crime fired from his TV job? That's the gossip. If so, that's even more alarming.

8. Am I shocked by the behavior of the cop? No.
I have seen too many cops over too many years in the justice system. Way too many are like this and before the advent of the video camera, they got away with it. Those of us in L.A. long before the OJ case knew about Fuhrman. No surprise that he was found to be a lying bigot at that trial.

Yep, cry, asshole, cry...your pension at risk or something like that?

10. I know my words cut deep and were very hurtful. ... " Wait - he assaulted an innocent man!
It wasn't just words. So if he is going to apologize it should be for more than just his words.

16. Bingo!
Until the law starts to apply to them the same way it does to all of us, there will continue to be abuses. Even if they were charged regularly, there would still be abuses, but there would be far less of them.

Fair & Balanced... Why Was Police Video Not Shown Earlier?

Fox affiliate refuses to air video of cops brutalizing innocent Latino, even though the video was shot by one of their own employees. Why did it take nearly three weeks for video of a Seattle police officer hurling a racial slur and then stomping on an innocent man to be shown on local television?

The video was shot the night of April 17 by Jud Morris, who worked earlier in the evening as a freelance photographer for KCPQ.

He said he first offered the footage to Q-13. At first, management was excited about the video, Morris said.

But two days later, "I was told 'We’re definitely not going to run this. It’s not egregious. The cop didn’t do anything wrong.'"

A few days after he shot the video, he was fired, Morris said.

After KIRO 7 aired the video Thursday night, Q13 put the video on its website and shared it with other local media outlets.

KCPQ had no comment on the matter.

KCPQ attorneys sent a letter on Friday asking KIRO 7 to stop showing the video and to take it down from kirotv.com.

And not for kicking a man in the head.

19. Exactly what we thought...he's sorry for his words but not for his
actions. The man wasn't resisting, even though he was innocent, he'd done exactly what he'd been told to do, and still the officers thought he needed to be kicked and stepped on.
