Boycott Leinenkugel beer
Dick Leinenkugel, of the Leinkugel Beer family in Wisconsin, is a teabagging Republican running against Russ Feingold, one of the best--and most liberal--members of the United States Senate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Leinenkugel

This is from Feingold's recent email:

Traffic on the low road is bumper to bumper.

The Republican primary is getting crowded and to no one’s surprise all of our opponents are taking the low road with divisive and deceptive campaigns. These self-proclaimed outsiders are tightly embracing politics as usual with slash-and-burn political tactics that see elections as a blood sport.

We believe the people of Wisconsin want better.

Recently, Dick Leinenkugel entered the race and went to Senator Feingold’s hometown of Janesville to question Russ’s patriotism. According to Leinenkugel, Russ is somehow un-American for being an independent voice who had the guts to stand up for our freedoms and vote against the USA PATRIOT Act.

Russ was led by our Wisconsin values when he was the lone vote against a dangerous government infringement on the constitutionally mandated individual rights of law-abiding citizens with no connection to terrorism whatsoever. It’s clear that - in the face of intrusion on the freedom we all cherish - Dick Leinenkugel would have chosen to “do nothing.”

There are plenty of other--and better--beers out there to drink. Time to Dump Leinie's and try something else.

I can't stand that swill in any flavor or pretty package they put it in. I tried Summer Shandy recently and almost puked.

13. I live just down the road from the Leinie's brewery.
They actually sold out to Miller a few years ago, but I believe Dick and the Leinenkugel heirs still own a piece of the company, and hence the profits. Had I known they were right-wing dirt-bags, I'd never have allowed the stuff in my house. I'm a Newcastle Ale man, anyway. That and the occasional Guinness.

29. Jake Leinenkugel is the brother who ran the brewery
Edited on Mon May-10-10 10:45 AM by Blue Owl
Other than being a descendent of the family, Dick Leinenkugel appears to have little if any involvement in the brewing company, Jake is the brother most associated with the brewery.

There are some varieties of Leinie's I love and some I hate, so unless Jake "hops" on the GOP bandwagon, I'll still crack open a cold Creamy Dark, Bock, Summer, Lager, and/or Red -- yum!

(edited to note that I just read his bio on wiki -- I see he has worked for the company's marketing/advertising division. Damn!)

BTW, there are far too many other quality microbrews available just about everywhere these days that give beer lovers a multitude of options.

Other candidates have attacked him for his work in the Doyle administration, Leinenkugel certainly isn't positioning himself as a moderate. He says he's a Reagan conservative. I'm far from an expert on Wisconsin GOP politics, but I think he's going to have a tough time in the primaries ...

As for Leine's--they have several good varieties of beer (along with a few that are fair to absolutely horrible); they're union made; and their CEO (Dick's older brother) has supported Dave Obey in the past, so the family apparently isn't universally nutty.

I don't know about elsewhere in the country, but the prices have gotten a little out of hand. A few weeks back I had the choice of Leinie's for $6.99 or Newcaste's for $7.49 -- for an extra fifty cents, I'd go with Newcastle regardless of Dick's politics.
