Kagan praised by Obama for hiring conservatives at Harvard
President Obama nominated Solicitor General Elena Kagan this morning for the Supreme Court vacancy being created by the retirement of Chicagoan John Paul Stevens.

Obama said Kagan would be the same "impartial guardian of the law" that Stevens has been over his 35-year career.

...

Obama noted that, as dean at Harvard Law School "at a time when many believed that Harvard faculty had gotten a little one-sided in its viewpoint," Kagan recruited conservative scholars to join the faculty and tried to be a bridge over the ideological divide.

More of the reaching across the aisle that has worked so well....

2. So now it's wrong to try to bridge the ideological divide, and perhaps
educate people? She was an educator, was she not?

14. Who is embracing conservatism? Being responsive to
a different ideology doesn't mean you're embracing it as your own. But you knew that.

15.  Being responsive to a different ideology
Means the other ideology loses some of its importance.

Historically our party isnt in favor of promoting conservatism.

As long as 'we' insist on treating conservatism as a valid political alternative to liberalism the conservatives will always win, as they treat liberalism as something thats to be eradicated.

Is that was this is to you, some sort of game with Team Liberal vs Team Conservative, "we" win and "they" lose? To suggest that every single conservative alive treats liberalism that way is just, well, false. You have the same attitude that you accuse "them" of having.

11. Yes, especially if you end up hiring white people
Because you know only reason white people get jobs is if the employer is racist. True liberal employers would never hire a white person.

7. Far more importantly, President Obama held up Stevens as a perfect example
of the kind of justice that is an "impartial guardian of the law". That being the case no one should doubt his choice of Kagan

19. Love all this bullshit, out of context, over-reactions in this thread.
Also from the SAME article.

"The president has grown vocal in his concern that the conservative-tilting court is giving too little voice to average people."

24. Meanwhile, I Guess All the People Who Yesterday Were Touting How Liberal She Is...
...will now switch tactics and talk about what a bridge-builder she is.

You guys really should wait for Obama's talking points to be released before you start spouting off. It would prevent you having to change horses in the middle of the stream.
