1. That is the margin he needs to overcome Rendell's machine
I have no horse in this race, but it will be nice if the President has to eat it for interfering in my state's primary process.

4. I just watched tweety talking about this. I did not see that Specter attacked Sestak's military...
...experience. Mistake.

I think Specter is toast. I did not see that coming.

I hope Sestak can win in the general.

5. I saw him debate Pat Toomey last summer
It was very painful to sit through, to the point of feeling sorry for Joe.

8. Yes and he's more polished

Toomey is a very scary character.

I'm torn between giving the President the finger, and voting for the guy I know can beat Pat Toomey head to head.

10. Toomey wants Sestak
Edited on Mon May-10-10 07:35 PM by AllentownJake
Here is the deal with Joe. He is not the dream candidate. His campaigns are generally run by his family who he pays well by working staff to death that he pays little. His political operation is not the best and they tend to piss off more people than they attract when you meet them. I can tell you of plenty of democrat activist who reached out to the Sestak operation initially only to have a bad taste in their mouth after a week of getting to know them.

That is coupled with certain personality issues.

His plusses are he is a hard worker and will be out on the campaign trail everyday.

His minuses are he is a hot-head a mediocre public speaker and will get his ass handed to him in a debate. Admirals aren't really that used to having to debate.

Specter, is a survivor, and knows how to get people to work for him. If he was 10 years younger, Sestak and Toomey would be polling way below him. The fact is, he is 80 and not the politician he was in his younger days.

His journey began as a democrat where the party leadership told him to wait his turn, it is almost fitting his end might come in a democratic party primary.

12. Thanks for those insights! Wonder if we can count on him to vote progressive...
While Specter has been a good little fake Dem for the past few months, I'm not sure we can trust him to vote our way after the election.

13. Specter is a liberal
he has no principles, but he is a flaming liberal. The only member of the GOP to be endorsing EFCA before Pat was after him again. He does what he thinks he needs to, to get elected. He is the last of the Rockerfeller Republicans.

14. And he's NOT a progressive.
People are so gullible. They know Joe's a progressive because... he told them so! Go read Nate Silver's comparison of their voting records.

Joe will say anything to get elected, and Toomey will wipe the floor with him.

15. No, Joe is not a progressive
but he was sure willing to go running to them when he realized they were the only people who would campaign actively against Specter in PA.

The sad thing about this race, is Joe would be the establishment candidate against Josh Shapiro if the President and the Vice President decided not to go meddling in PA politics, and Josh Shapiro is a scary speaker, politician, and legislator.
