Small New York Town Makes English the Law
It’s about 2,500 miles from this green, rural town in the rolling hills near Vermont to the Mexican border at Nogales, but that hasn’t stopped Jackson from making a bid to be New York’s small version of Arizona in the immigration wars.

Or that’s how it is beginning to feel two months after Jackson — which has 1,700 people, no village, no grocery store or place to buy gasoline, no church, no school, two restaurants and maybe a few Spanish-speaking farm workers — decided it needed a law requiring that all town business be conducted in English.

I'm jolly well sick and tired of listening to that horrible guttural dialect so many Americans speak. Making them speak the Queen's English is a step in the right direction, I say!

Next step will be to make tea drinking mandatory. And remember: milk is the only proper accompaniment. Don't let me catch any of you squeezing lemon into your tea! It's just not British.

4. these are the same kind of jerks who gave French Canadian Catholics problems in the last century.
I would think they probably still have more French speakers visiting their area than Spanish speakers.

7. I heard a teabagger in the library today say that our schools should not teach foreign languages.
Maybe they will put it in the republican platform.

8. If they're going "English Only," that leaves the teabaggers out, doesn' it?
From their signs, you'd have to conclude that they have LITTLE familiarity with English.

Which brings to mind what Dick Cavett said about Sarah Palin: "She doesn't seem to have a first language."
