21. As an "economist" who worked for the Government for decades, I'd say No.
It is not so recent a problem as you might immagine, but the answer is no, you can not trust any "fact" that is released by any Federal Agency. By "fact" I mean any statistic or any statement which relies on a Government-generated statistic as evidence of truth. None of them are any good.

26. Disinformation isn't ALL lies. There has to be enough good info so the source stays credible.
The Big Lie is something else - that's propaganda, which relies upon emotional effect for its usefulness in psyops.

One is deception, the other agitation/demotivation.

28. What is "the truth", anyway?
Sometimes "the truth" is what they want us to think, only it's not really true.

Sometimes "the truth" is what they actually believe and don't realize that it's not really the truth and it's maybe half true.

In other words, there are some people who KNOW they're lying, and there are some who are being as truthful as they can be without malice.

Soooooo.....no. I don't think "they" are always telling the truth.

Like a broken clock that's correct twice a day, the truth is occasionally beneficial to the power elite. But only after thorough vetting and spinning.

So I just think on things, and most importantly do not put my trust in man.

All you can do is not be part of system you disagree with, and try to show what it is.

But the majority of the country is either completely clueless, oblivious, uninterested, incurious, uninformed, or completely blind and unquestioning to their "Football Team" they support, whether it be right or left.

Meanwhile, Those in power continue their game of Non-Representative Government, Self-Serving Agendas, and keeping The Herd (Us) in line, so that we don't get in the way of whatever they are doing.

The situation isn't hopeless, but it is rather grim.

On the one hand though, you have to admit it's educational.

I always wondered what it was like to live under a Media Structure like PRAVDA from the Old Soviet Union, and now we are getting to live it first hand!

Внушительно!

We can never stop using our voices to shed light on things, no matter how much some would like to drown us out and shut us down.

If we go Silent, they win.

Even if they win anyway, it's better to go down swinging. :)

If you mean all politicians, that depends too. Some are, some aren't. This whole "they all lie" meme is a dumb end run around thinking and not remotely close to the truth.

42. No.
Especially after reading about this guy.

Edward Louis Bernays (November 22, 1891 – March 9, 1995, was an American pioneer in the field of public relations along with Ivy Lee, referred to in his obituary as "the father of public relations".<1> Combining the ideas of Gustave Le Bon and Wilfred Trotter on crowd psychology with the psychoanalytical ideas of his uncle, Dr. Sigmund Freud, Bernays was one of the first to attempt to manipulate public opinion using the subconscious.

He felt this manipulation was necessary in society, which he regarded as irrational and dangerous as a result of the 'herd instinct' that Trotter had described. Adam Curtis's award-winning 2002 documentary for the BBC, The Century of the Self, pinpoints Bernays as the originator of modern public relations, and Bernays was named one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century by Life magazine.<2>
