This is in Austin, TEXAS. What's y'alls' town doing about it?
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/cityhall/entries/2010/05/13/council_oks_resolution_to_prot.html?srcTrk=RTR_661354

The Austin City Council passed a resolution this morning aimed at ending business and travel ties to Arizona to protest a new state law that allows Arizona law enforcement officers to detain people they suspect are in the country illegally.

The resolution, proposed by Council Member Mike Martinez, calls for ending all business-related travel to Arizona by city employees...

Council members have said that the new law is discriminatory and that they don’t want to put city employees at risk of being detained during business travel. Martinez said Thursday that he wanted to clarify that the resolution calls for ending business ties with the state of Arizona, not businesses located there.

1. Excellent news. Somebody said Boulder, CO has joined the boycott.
And Denver Public Schools are boycotting, too.

2. My Hometown
A small lake of blue in a red state. Still haven't found any place I like more. Glad Austin is taking a place in leading the blow-back against this horrible law.

7. As usual, San Francisco leads the way. As they have on so many
issues. I wouldn't mind retiring there at all. We were at DLI in Monterey a long time ago and went to San Francisco many times. We were back there this summer and it was even more lovely than I had remembered. If only I didn't feel like I needed rock climbing gear to walk up the sidewalks...

8. Keep Austin Krazy!
That makes Austin the only sane place in Texas.

I doubt Freepertown (Bryan/College Station) will do any such thing.

11. Houston and San Antonio have their moments.
And El Paso, although that's practically New Mexico instead of Texas.

15. The really crazy GOPers are trying to get a similar law passed here
but more moderate GOPers know that if such a law ever passed in Texas, it would be the death knell of the GOP in Texas.

17. Good to hear. Having grown up in Mississippi during desegregation
and now living in Texas, I know what it's like for a state to be villified for the actions of its government and its less informed citizens. I've been to Arizona and love the state, and I'm glad to see many people there taking a stand. :)

26. Austin is an island in the sea of Texas.
Actually, Texas is a damn fine state to live in. Just don't read the papers and be careful who you make eye contact with. :) It's a beautiful place.
